NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Senior administration officials and school board members knew of major fire safety deficiencies at New Rochelle High School for years and failed to address them. These serious fire hazards first came to light in 2007 but were not fully repaired until 2015.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Wendy Yu, a junior at New Rochelle High School, has been named a semifinalist in the highly competitive National Merit Scholarship Program.

Approximately 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools across America entered the program by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAR/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Only 1,600 students, including Yu, made the pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1 percent of high school seniors who took the test.

Junior Picked as Player of the Week by The Journal News

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Rachel Darius, a New Rochelle High School junior, has been picked by The Journal News as "Player of the Week" of Sept. 25.

Darius, an outside hitter on the volleyball team, led the Huguenots to a sweep of all three of their opponents this week, including Ursuline, the second-ranked overall team in the section by The Journal News.

According to the paper, Darius tallied 51 kills, nine aces, and 29 digs this week.

Mandarin Meltdown III: Former New Rochelle Schools Mandarin Teacher Loses Defamation Case

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Talk of the Sound reported several years ago on the rather curious case of Hui Altman, a former Mandarin language teacher who was terminated by the New Rochelle School District in 2012. It would be an understatement to say she did not react well to being terminated by the District. She allegedly threatened to kill herself. Police were called and she was removed from Ward Elementary School, She did not return to work after the incident.
