Iona Places Third At Hofstra Quad

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The Iona College golf program placed third of four teams at the one day Hofstra Quad hosted at Garden City Country Club in Garden City, NY.  The Gaels shot 306 (+26) as a team, with freshman Matt Mirocco performing best individually with a 74 (+4).

Hofstra won the event tallying 285 (+5), 16 shots better than the runner up Wagner (+21).  Johnson Ko of the Pride was the lone competitor under par, ending the day at 69 (-1).

Planetarium Offers Night Under Stars in Search of Liquid Water

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School is inviting students to spend a night under the stars with a planetarium show to be held Wednesday at the high school planetarium.

"Oasis in Space," a feature show, will take students on a startling and beautiful voyage through the galaxy, solar system and universe in search of liquid water, a key ingredient for life on Earth. Admission is free.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the show begins promptly at 7 p.m. No one will be admitted once the doors close.

2nd Half Romp Leads to 8-0 Win Over Berkeley

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- At the end of the first half of Monday night's Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Mens Soccer match between the College of New Rochelle and Berkeley College, those in attendance were getting what they expected - a heated 1-0 contest.

But, just 36 seconds into the 2nd half, CNR's Nicorey Warren (Brooklyn, NY) scored his second of three goals on the night to K/O the Knights.  The Blue Angels would score four more times in the next 14 minutes to push the lead to 6-0.  Two more tallies set the final at 8-0.

Monroe Women’s Soccer Defeats Rowan College at Burlington County, 10-0

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Monroe College's Women's Soccer team played their second home game of the season on Monday, defeating Rowan College at Burlington County with a 10-0 final score. Maia Williams led the offense with six goals, including a first-half hat trick. The team is now 2-0 at home and 4-0-2 overall.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As a result of its success at the Paul Short Invitational last weekend, the Iona College men’s’ cross country team moved up in both the USTFCCCA regional and national polls.  The Gaels moved up eight spots and are now ranked eighth in the country.  They also climbed one spot and are now ranked second in the Northeast region.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In the latest USTFCCCA regional poll, the Iona College women’s cross country program is ranked No. 10 in the Northeast.   Strong performances at the 22nd annual Br. John “Paddy” Doyle / Meet of Champions and Paul Short Invitational have propelled the Gaels back into the rankings for the first time since Sept. 12.

The top four teams in the Northeast Region are all nationally ranked, including No. 1 Providence College, No. 17 Yale, No. 20 Syracuse, and No. 29 Harvard.

ALBANY, NY -- New York State Office for the Aging acting director Greg Olsen reminds older New Yorkers that the Medicare open enrollment period runs from October 15 through December 7, 2016. Medicare health and prescription drug plans can make changes each year to costs, coverage, and what providers and pharmacies are in their networks. The open enrollment period is when all people with Medicare can change their health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year to better meet their needs. Plan changes take effect January 1, 2017.
