Super Crane Completes Final Girder Lift for 2016

NEW YORK, NY -- Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) has installed the final steel girder assembly for the new westbound span. More than 100 similar girder assemblies have been installed on the new approach spans, with many sections weighing more than 700 tons. These massive assemblies rest atop the new bridge’s concrete piers, and in turn support the new road deck. The assemblies also include infrastructure to carry communications, electrical power, water and compressed air to support bridge operations.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Mens Soccer team remained unbeaten in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action after a 2-0 downing of The Kings College at Aviator Sports Complex Wednesday night.  CNR improves to 4-0 in the league and now stands at 10-2 overall, while Kings falls to 3-2 in HVIAC play.

Freshmen Jovanni Garcia (Garden Grove, CA) scored both goals on the night for CNR, the game-sealing tally coming in the 85th minute.  FIrst first tally was assisted by freshmen Cesar Rodriguez (Santa Ana, CA), while the latter was unassisted.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Yesterday, U.S Senator Chuck Schumer held a press conference at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center to introduce his proposed new legislation to Medicare entitled BENES act. The new legislation will make the Medicare enrollment process easier and help ensure everyone receives the full coverage they’ve earned. We wholeheartedly support Senator Schumer’s efforts to protect seniors with the BENES Act. This new legislation will significantly improve the program for new enrollees. It was an honor to have Senator Schumer choose our senior center to deliver this important update.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle today announced it will host a public lecture on the 2016 election that will focus on the ways both presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Secretary Hillary Clinton, have attempted to communicate sincerity, understanding, and competence to the voters, while trying to undermine each other’s messages. The lecture, called “The Political Psychology of the 2016 Election,” will take place on Thursday, October 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the New Rochelle campus.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The 1931 classic film version of Dracula, starring Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula will be shown on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm, in the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library. The free viewing is being presented in partnership with the New Rochelle Council on the Arts as part of a pre-Halloween focus on Dracula.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- “Day of the Dead” (El Día de los Muertos,) a festive observance from Mexico that commemorates the return to earth of deceased family and friends each year, will be celebrated at the New Rochelle Public Library  with an elaborate exhibit and free events. Beginning October 30, the library’s lobby will again be transformed as Calaveras y Diablitos, a group of local artists, create their tenth annual exhibit in the library’s lobby.

Ward's Readathon Kicks Off

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- William B. Ward Elementary School kicked off its annual, month-long Readathon today, which included members of the greater New Rochelle community visiting the school to read to students throughout October.

The "I Read!  What's your Superpower?" campaign is also the school's largest fundraising event. Organizers are hopeful to exceed the $53,000 raised last year.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Zonta Club of New Rochelle, in partnership with the New Rochelle Public Library, invites young adults and adults to join in a conversation about dating violence, following the viewing of two powerful programs from the Emmy-award winning PBS series, In the Mix, on Thursday, October 27, 2016, from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm. The program will be repeated for parents from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. The free event will be held in the Ossie Davis Theater and Meeting Room, on a drop-in basis.
