Rider Upends Iona Volleyball In Four Sets

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College volleyball program wrapped up its weekend with a tough four set loss (18-25, 17-25, 25-23, 15-25) at Rider on Sunday afternoon.  The Maroon & Gold got strong efforts for the second straight game from senior Karly White and freshman Tess Connolly.

Following Rider winning the opening two sets, the Gaels survived with a valiant comeback effort in the third.  Trailing throughout the majority of the set, Iona battled back from being down 21-18.  Connolly scored the set-clinching points with two straight service aces.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle is sponsoring a Forum for candidates on the November 8 ballot on Monday evening, October 24, in the Auditorium of New Rochelle City Hall, 515 North Ave. The Candidates Forum will begin at 6:15 p.m. but doors will open at 5:30 p.m.        

Only candidates in contested races were invited.  In two contests in which only one of two candidates can attend, those candidates will have five minutes each to make a statement starting at  6:15 p.m.

New Rochelle Students Lost on Way to School for Almost Two Hours, Bused Through Bronx then into Yonkers

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle parents of students at the Windward Upper School were freaking out this morning as their kids went missing for almost two hours Wednesday morning.

Windward is an independent school exclusively for students grades one through nine with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities,

A bus driver working for Mile Square Transportation was fired Wednesday after he became lost with 10 children on his morning route from New Rochelle to the Windward Upper School. The children were located in Yonkers and taken to the school without harm.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino and the Westchester County Youth Board will honor Dr. Dean Saghafi and Mr. Michael Garcia-Wing with the inaugural Westchester Innovative School Educators (WISE) Award. The awards will be presented, along with the Milly Kibrick Youth Service Awards, at a dinner beginning at 6 p.m., October 19, at Beckwith Pointe, 700 Davenport Avenue, New Rochelle. 

Additionally, Astorino announced that Ebony White, Workforce Development Coordinator for the Business Council of Westchester, will provide the dinner’s keynote address.
