Solar Power from Con Edison Rooftops to Benefit Low-income Customers

NEW YORK, NY -- Con Edison proposed a pilot program today to build solar arrays on its company-owned building rooftops and properties to make clean, renewable energy available to low-income customers, a residential sector that has little access to the burgeoning rooftop solar market.

There would be no cost to low-income participants, who could realize savings of up to $60 per year.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Surfers catching waves, a swirl of migrating butterflies, and a dancer leaping on the Times Square subway platform depict the many ways that art captures movement, which will be the subject of a new exhibition, opening on November 2, at United Hebrew of New Rochelle’s Lazarus Gallery. Titled Art In Motion, this juried show will feature 35 paintings, photographs, sculptures and other works by 18 emerging and established artists from across the New York metropolitan region. The gallery is located at 391 Pelham Road, New Rochelle.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The popular song-and-dance group, New York Cabaret Unlimited, will showcase music from Fred Astaire's great films in a fully staged, narrated program they have titled, “Astaire Way to Paradise.” 

The program will take place on Sunday, November 20th at 3:00 pm, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served to the capacity of the 138-seat Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library. The program is made possible by the Friends of NRPL. A donation of $2.00 is suggested at the door.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On November 5, Westchester Homebrew Emporium is hosting an American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Learn to Homebrew Day event. The event, which is free and open to the public, will start at 9:30am. 

Organized by the AHA, Learn to Homebrew Day is an opportunity for homebrewers to draft their non-brewer friends and family to learn how to make beer at home. Hundreds of fun, educational events are held at homes, breweries, shops and clubs all over the world.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- We are delighted to welcome Judge Smith back to New Rochelle. Robert Sherlock Smith began his tenure on the N.Y. Court of Appeals starting January 12, 2004, and reached mandatory retirement age of 70 in 2014. He generally was viewed as one of the most conservative judges on the Court.  Judge Smith wrote more than 300 opinions while on the Court, of which over 200 were majority decisions. Judge Smith is that rare person who combines hard work and intelligence with a great sense of humor and ability to connect with people.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On Thursday, November 17th at 7:30 p.m. The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) will show an advance screening of the much anticipated new film Lion, starring Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Moulin Rouge), Rooney Mara (Carol, The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo), and David Wehnam (300). Lion is the feature film directorial debut for Garth Davis and is based on the non-fiction book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley. It opens nationwide on Friday, November 25th.

Three Alumni Inducted into New Rochelle High School Wall of Fame

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School inducted three esteemed alumni to its Wall of Fame on Tuesday.

Jennifer Hyman, class of 1998, Dr. Mark J. Lewis, class of 1980, and Dr. Anthony Bongo, class of 1976, made up the 2016 class of honorees. A ceremony was held at the high school to introduce them and unveil their portraits on the Wall.
