NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- This holiday season, the New Rochelle Youth Bureau is encouraging locals to participate in this year’s Annual Give A Gift. The program provides gifts to children of New Rochelle families in need during the Holiday Season. The Youth Council, Strive Leadership Academy, The City School District of New Rochelle, Police Association of New Rochelle, Uniformed Firefighters of New Rochelle and Maffei Landscape, Inc., teamed up to sponsor the event.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona College hosted its fourth SEMI-Annual Honors Reception on Tuesday night, November 15, at the Paley Center for Media in Midtown Manhattan. The event celebrated Iona alumni working in or connected to the sports, entertainment and media industry (SEMI).  As part of the program, Iona announced a $50,000 gift from AT&T New York as the first underwriter for the program.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As part of the largest downtown redevelopment initiative in the history of the Hudson Valley, the City of New Rochelle has contracted with LQD WiFi LLC, a provider of integrated networks of community technology hubs, to develop the first-ever ‘Palo’ WiFi kiosk program for the city.

On November 14, it was announced that LQD was acquired by Verizon. (see Verizon release)

Iona College Files Request with City to Expand Campus Footprint into Residential Section of New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona College has filed what is sure to become a controverial request to merge 12 tax parcels in the Beechmont Section of New Rochelle which would alter the residential character of the neighborhood.

If approved, properties along Beechmont Drive, Montgomery Place and Pryer Terrace would be merged with Iona’s main campus to create one contagious property that would significantly increase the allowable density while giving the college maximum flexibility to complete its master plan without getting approval from the City Council.

Nonprofit Westcop and New Rochelle’s Day Program for the Homeless Both Have Serious Problems

Since September 2014, Oasis (New Rochelle’s drop-in shelter) and Hope Community Services have been paid by the city to run a day program (“Resource Center”) for the homeless. It has few activities besides a television set. The program’s housing counselor works out of Hope, where it is now run on weekdays. But for its first year, clients stayed at Oasis until 1 p.m., making it rather difficult to receive services.
