Dennis F. Brooks Obituary

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Dennis F. Brooks, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, passed on July 22, 2016. He was 63.

Dennis was born on June 18, 1953 in Glendale, California to Virginia and the late Harvey Brooks.

He was the owner of B & G Auto Distributors in Pelham for 36 years. He was past president of the Pelham Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his mother Virginia Giustino, he is survived by his wife the former Lori Gray whom he married on October 15, 1989; his two children Jeremy Brooks and Margaux Brooks and his sister Debra Stevens.

Fire at 215 Union Avenue a Near Run Thing

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle firefighters feel fortunate that the call came in quickly for a fire at 215 Union Avenue in New Rochelle.

A call came in for "smoke in the structure".

"Another few minutes and we could have lost the whole structure," said one firefighter.

Captain Martin Gotte, an Acting Deputy Chief, said that upon arrival firefighters encountered smoke coming from three different sides of the structure.

"We found the fire on the first floor, and second floor, with very little extension to the third floor," said Gotte.

False Report of a Man with a Gun, Leads Police into Stand-Off in Downtown New Rochelle Which Ends Peacefully.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Police were called to an apartment building in downtown New Rochelle this morning based on an erroneous report that a tenant of the building was in a hallway with a weapon. After a 3-hour standoff, police opted to diffuse the situation by leaving the scene with the man still in his apartment.

The event began when a neighbor observed what she thought was a gun in the hand of her neighbor who was in the hallway of the Apartments at 5 Anderson Street. The neighbor called the police.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Joseph Jerry Schribman, 91 a long-time New Rochelle resident passed on July 4th 2016. He was a WW ll veteran, an Optometrist by trade. Dr. Schribman was born in Manhattan, March 2nd 1925. He graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1948. Dr. Schribman loved traveling, history, science, archaeology and swimming.

He is survived by his wife Maurine Zwillich Schribman, his sister Rita Kalter, his daughter Susan Givotovsky, his son David Schribman and his two grandchildren.
