NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Anna Grieco 83, of New Rochelle, New York died September 10, 2016 at Calvary Hospital. Anna was born on October 18, 1932 to Joe and Lucia Sperduto Colangelo. Anna married Vincent Grieco on October 12, 1958 at St. Joseph Church. She is survived by son John (Lisa) Grieco, daughter Cathy (Louie) Porco, sister Carmela Cellini, grandchildren John, Kelly, and Louis. Predeceased by husband Vincent, brother Anthony (Honey boy) Colangelo, Daniel Colangelo, sister Rosemarie Rossetti.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Silver, Martin A., 72 of New Rochelle, NY passed away on September 8, 2016. Deeply mourned by his loving wife Linda Maxin Silver, beloved son Scott Silver and wife Bonnie, beloved daughter Shanna Leuchter and husband Bruce, and dear sister Susan Wisan and her husband Robert. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Trey, Allison, Remy and Ross. After graduating from the Wharton School of Business in 1966 he became a CPA. In 1970, he joined the family business, Bel-Aqua Pool Supply in New Rochelle, NY, a company founded by his parents, Nettie and Murray Silver.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Carmela Di Capua, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on September 9, 2016. She was 78.

Carmela was born on January 7, 1938 in Bonefro, Italy to the late Giovanni and Santa (Giannotti) Colombo.

She worked for many years as a Seamstress for Imp Originals in New Rochelle and was a member of Amalgamated #169 and the ILGWU. She was predeceased by her husband Federico whom she married in 1955. He died on July 10, 1989.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Two of Iona Prep’s top scholar-athletes signed National Letters of Intent, sealing the next step to their academic and athletic careers.

John Tyrrell, 17, of the Bronx, will play football for the University of New Haven this fall. The 6-foot-five-inch, 300-pound senior was selected by the Catholic High School Football League (CHSFL) as All-League and named a Journal News All-County Honorable Mention player. Tyrrell was also a CHSFL Senior Bowl Participant and the starting left tackle for Iona Prep.

Engel, a leading member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has co-sponsored legislation that would block President Trump’s Executive Order to build a wall along the Mexican border. H.R. 837, the Build Bridges Not Walls Act would prohibit the implementation of the order, which would construct a costly border wall that would be both ineffective and impractical.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The 3rd Annual #WestchesterSmart Mobile App Development Bowl kicked off today at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, where over 200 students from high schools and colleges across Westchester, Rockland, New York City and Massachusetts came together for a pep rally and tech workshops.

In all, more than 350 students from over 40 high schools and colleges are registered to compete in the competition. This year the contest went international, with a team competing from Scotland.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College women’s basketball program earned its sixth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win Saturday afternoon, taking down Canisius at the Koessler Athletics Center, 58-45.  With the victory, the Gaels stay just one game back in the MAAC standings behind Rider and Quinnipiac, who are tied for first place.
