“Extraordinary Women, a Film Series,” to Feature Three Movies

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library and the Zonta Club of New Rochelle will present a three-part film series, “Extraordinary Women,” on three Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm during the month of March. The free movies will be shown on the big screen of the Ossie Davis Theater.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Free sessions of easy yoga to help reduce stress and relieve tension continue to be offered during Monday and Wednesday lunch hours at the New Rochelle Public Library. Monday sessions are held for 30 minutes, from 12:15 - 12:45 pm, and Wednesday sessions are 45 minutes in length, from 1:15 pm – 2:00 pm.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Stivenson Desir (DOB 11/12/96) of 759 Main Street, New Rochelle, New York was found guilty today after a jury trial in front of Judge Barry Warhit of: 

•one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” Felony,

•two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, class “C” Felonies,

in the death of Brandon Lawrence.

A.G. Schneiderman Issues Urgent Fraud Alert on “Ice” Immigration Scams

NEW YORK, NY --Today, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued an urgent fraud alert, warning immigrant communities of potential scams in light of recent reports that fraudsters have been posing as Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents scams and demanding money in order to avoid deportation. The Attorney General’s office has received an increased number of reported scams along these lines following the ICE deportation raids that have taken place over the last few days.

New York State Parks Unveils New Family Sharing Empire Pass Card

NEW YORK, NY -- The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) today announced the new State Parks Empire Pass Card is now available for purchase. The new Empire Pass Card, accepted at state parks and recreation areas across New York, is a wallet-sized plastic card that can be shared among family members including parents, grandparents, caregivers and more. The card is presented upon vehicle entry and includes QR code and embedded chip technology to allow for easier park access at select facilities.

PELHAM, NY -- On Tuesday, February 28th at 7:30 p.m. The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) will show an advance screening of The Sense of an Ending (PG-13, 1hr. 48 mins.) followed by a Q&A with the director Ritesh Batra led by TPH’s Critic-in-Residence Marshall Fine. The film will open nationwide on Friday, March 10th.

PELHAM, NY -- Pelham Art Center is excited to announce our next Folk Art event, Andean Carnavales. Join us on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 PM for family-friendly activities celebrating Peruvian Culture. In celebration of Carnavales (Carnival), experience a traditional Peruvian musical performance by the band Inkarayku, led by Mr. Andres Jimenez. Stay for a hands-on workshop creating a craft typical of the Peruvian Carnaval season. As part of our Folk Arts Series, this event is free and open to all ages.
