School Students Interpret Classic Literature with Modern Tech

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- “Lights, device, action!”

This is what’s going on at New Rochelle High School, about 20 miles north of New York City, where students use smartphones and tablets to create short movies based on classic works of literature.

The school’s writing and filmmaking program, which heavily employs mobile devices, works in conjunction with the English high school curriculum.

ACTION—Students at New Rochelle High School in Westchester County, New York, write and shoot their interpretations of classic literature as part of English curriculum.

Norwalk Man Facing Assault and Other Charges After Chase on the Hutch

NEW YORK, NY -- A Connecticut man is facing numerous criminal charges after he led Westchester County Police on a chase Wednesday night on the Hutchinson River Parkway, rammed two police cars and injured several officers before being subdued and placed under arrest.

Three police officers – two from Westchester County and one from Harrison – were injured in the incident, which occurred about 9 p.m.

Unraveling Gender aims to celebrate diversity and foster an inclusive community; where people of all genders can express themselves fully. It will feature remarks from Sam Killermann, Reginald Richardson, Michael Hilderbrand, Eileen Riemerschmid, and more.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The six Westchester County-owned golf courses are scheduled to open for the season on Wednesday, March 15, weather and conditions permitting.

Tee time reservations may be made online at golf.westchestergov.com. Reservations may also be made by calling the individual courses. Walk up reservations will also be accepted at the courses.

Doctorow, joined Mayor Noam Bramson at New Rochelle Public Library on Thursday morning, February 23rd to announce a $125,000 grant from New York State that will support the Doctorow Legacy Initiative, honoring the acclaimed author in the city that inspired his best-known work, Ragtime.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- H. Michael Dreher, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, the Elizabeth Bell LeVaca Dean of the School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions at The College of New Rochelle, and co-author Michael D. Dahnke, Ph.D. were recently recognized by The American Journal of Nursing (AJN) for their book, Philosophy of Science for Nursing Practice, Second Edition, which placed second in its 2016 Book of the Year Contest. The book was one of only three other books to place second in the category for Nursing Research. The annual AJN awards are the most prestigious publishing awards in nursing.

Jonitha Alston (DOB 10/11/86) of 138 Winthrop Avenue, New Rochelle, New York was arraigned on an indictment today before Judge Barbara Zambelli and charged with: 

•one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A-1” Felony,

•one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class “A” Misdemeanor,

•one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class “A” Misdemeanor

in the death of Dennis Graham (DOB 05/07/56).

Monroe Baseball Opens 2017 Season with a Win

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Monroe College's Men's Baseball team -- the 2016 Region XV champions -- opened the new season with a 6-2 victory over Burlington County College in a game played at Pemberton, NJ, on Friday. The game was the first of an intended doubleheader that saw game two suspended due to darkness. Monroe was leading the second game, 3-0.

Monroe sophomore Oliver Mailloux earned his first win of the year after earning the start and throwing five innings of one-hit ball. Michael Crispino and Ramon Encarnacion each threw an inning of relief.

Dee Registers Sub Four Minute Mile to Highlight Weekend for Iona ITF

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A sub-four-minute mile from Liam Dee highlighted two meets this weekend for the Iona College track and field program.

Dee took part in the mile event at the Boston University Last Chance Meet on Sunday and during the fourth heat of the event, the junior recorded a time of 3:58.19 to earn sixth place. The time is the fastest in the MAAC this season by eight seconds and also gives the England native the second best time in Iona Indoor history.

Kieran Clements also raced in the mile, posting a time of 4:09.43 for 21st, two seconds off his season-best.
