Iona Baseball Drops Series Finale at North Carolina Central, 7-5

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College baseball team was unable to sweep an opening weekend series at North Carolina Central this afternoon, falling 7-5 in Durham.

Marcus Washburn came in during the top of the ninth to earn the save for the Eagles (3-4), getting one out during a bases-loaded opportunity for the Gaels (2-1). Jon Budesa led off the inning with a single followed by a Matt Byrne walk and pinch hitter Seth Hoagland being hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. However, Nick Caregnato and Washburn each recorded an out to close out the win for NCCU.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men’s basketball team was unable to find the shooting touch from the free throw line as visiting Monmouth upended the Gaels 79-73 to conclude the 2016-17 regular season.

The Hawks (26-5, 18-2), the MAAC Regular Season Champions, won their 16th straight contest due in large part to a 22-11 made free throw margin. The Maroon & Gold (19-12, 12-8 MAAC) shot an uncharacteristic 52.4 percent (11-for-21) from the charity stripe despite ranking 13th in the country entering the game with a season percentage of 76.6.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Ms. Rosemary Kennedy's 9th grade Introduction to Music class went to Manhattan on February 15, 2017 to see the opera Carmen, by Bizet. Seeing a live opera performance at Lincoln Center is part of the curriculum to broaden their perspective on genres of music performed world-wide. They study the opera first as an historical work of literature along with the time period and the language. The girls had a marvelous time! They were amazed by the opulence of Lincoln Center, and how packed the Opera House was on a cold Wednesday evening in February.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle firefighters responded today to an early morning fire in the basement of a house at 22 Spruce Street. 

The call came in at 5:33 am when an elderly man knocked on the door of the Drake Avenue Firehouse to report he heard a popping noise in the basement and smelled "something". The house is located just around the corner from the house. Firefighters arrived on scene at 5:37 am.

"There was a problem with the electrical system," said New Rochelle Fire Chief Lou DiMeglio. 

New Rochelle Police Issue Alert after Credit Card Skimmer Found at Local Gas Station

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police have issued an alert after a credit card skimmer was found at a local gas station.

The device was on a credit/debit card swipe machine on the counter inside the Sunoco Station at 71 Huguenot Street, not attached to a gas pump.   It was discovered on Feb 27th by a technician who was called to service the unit.

Skimming devices allow thieves to copy credit or debit card information. It is often difficult to determine that a device is attached to a payment terminal or ATM.
