Employee Charged in Theft of County Funds

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- A Westchester County employee was arrested today on a grand larceny charge following an investigation by the Westchester County Police, Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and the Department of Finance into some missing county funds.

The probe began after an internal Finance Department audit revealed discrepancies connected with the employee’s work, Public Safety Commissioner George N. Longworth said.

Astorino Announces Season Opening of County Parks’ Boat Launches

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced today that the county’s three public boat launch areas, located at George’s Island Park in Montrose, Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson and Glen Island Park in New Rochelle, will open for the season on Saturday, April 1.

“Whether they prefer picturesque Long Island Sound or the majestic Hudson, boaters are always eager to return to the water after the long winter, and we are ready to help them have a spring and summer of fun,” Astorino said.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino has announced that nominations are open for candidates to the 2017 Westchester Sports Hall of Fame, which honors outstanding professional and amateur sportsmen and sportswomen.

“Many talented Westchester men and women have dedicated their lives and careers to sports, whether as athletes, coaches, managers or by keeping the rest of us informed through the news media,” said Astorino. “The Westchester Sports Hall of Fame offers an excellent opportunity to give these professionals some well-deserved recognition.”

New Rochelle Bike Share Program Likely Delayed to 2018

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Citing "considerable opposition", the City of New Rochelle has withdrawn a proposal to increase the 2017 Budget and appropriate $180,000 to jump start a bike share program first proposed last Spring so that it could launch over the summer of 2016. The program is now likely delayed until 2018.

The opposition stems from a promise from the Mayor that no taxpayer dollars would be used to fund the program.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- William T. Stone, a resident of New Rochelle, NY passed away on September 15th. He was born on January 17, 1921 in Checotah(Jenks), Oklahoma to Oram Reid and Christine Martin. 

He was a graduate of New Rochelle H.S. and was a legendary athlete, inducted into the New Rochelle Hall of Fame (football, basketball and track).
