Astorino Taps Oros as New Director of Economic Development

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced today that he is appointing George Oros as the new Director of Economic Development and that Phil Oliva, the current Deputy Director of Communications, will succeed Oros as Chief of Staff.

Both appointments are effective March 13.

Astorino today joined Janet Crawshaw, publisher of The Valley Table magazine with Benjamin Prelvukaj and Benjamin Sinanaj, owners of Benjamin Steakhouse, to kick off Hudson Valley Restaurant Week (HVRW) for Spring 2017. To kick off the event, the County Executive plated the “Astorino Sirloin” at Benjamin Steakhouse in White Plains. During HVRW, which runs from March 6 – 19, diners can sample delicious dishes throughout the county.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino encourages residents who are concerned about potential lead in their drinking water to take advantage of a free testing kit, that is now available through the Westchester County Department of Labs and Research. All residents are eligible to receive a test kit whether they are served by a private well or a public water system.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Rutgers University spoiled today’s home-opener for the Iona College baseball team by earning a 12-3 road victory at City Park this afternoon.

The Scarlet Knights (4-7) put together three separate innings of three runs to score nine of the 12 runs as Nick Matera led the attack with four RBI on three hits. Luke Bowerbank added three RBI and a run scored on three hits while Christian Campbell and Milo Freeman added two runs and two RBI each.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle (CNR) has announced the election of Sister Kathleen Finnerty, OSU, to its Board of Trustees.

Sister Kathleen, a CNR alumna, is currently Superior of the Ursuline Community at the Province Center in New Rochelle. She also provides new principal mentoring for Catholic elementary and high school students and is a Board member of Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware and Iona Prep in New Rochelle.

The two parents were illegal immigrants who came to the United States from Mexico in the eighties. They subsequently became U.S. citizens and will this June celebrate as their daughter graduates as the 2017 Salutatorian of New Rochelle High School.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On Saturday, the Monroe College Men's Basketball team used a strong second half to defeat ASA College, 76-69, and advance to the Region XV Championship game against Harcum College on Sunday. The Mustangs trailed by double digits in the first half before rallying for the victory.
