NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Dozens of pink plastic flamingos mysteriously planted themselves on a front lawn on Highbrook Blvd. in Pelham.  The following day they were sighted on Esplanade….Facebook began buzzing. A rosy line of flamingos greeted commuters one morning near the train station.  Since then, the pink flock has roosted on lawns across Pelham.  What is going on?

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Gloria passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016.

Gloria was a resident of New Rochelle, New York at the time of her passing.

She graduated from Gorton High School Yonkers NY in 1941 and the College of New Rochelle in 1945 earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Math before entering the Ursuline Novitiate on July 15 1945. After religious profession she studied at Fordham University earning a Master's of Science Degree in Math in 1949.

She was a loving mother to Ronnie Giamundo and mother-in-law to Paul. Devoted grandmother to Caitlin Cardona (Billy) and Meaghan. The best great grandma ever to Sofia and Bryan Cardona. She was the best cook and loved to feed her large extended family. She loved bingo and playing cards. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph of 65 years, her brothers Frank and John Agnetti.

Leonor was a resident of New Rochelle, New York at the time of her passing.

She was married to Jesse.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday 2-4 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl. New Rochelle NY. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will be private.


AARP Offers Free Tax Assistance at Library will Conclude on April 18

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The last day for free tax assistance by TCE, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program and VITA, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance conducted at the New Rochelle Public Library will be Tuesday, April 18th. Trained AARP volunteer counselors will be available every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, through April 18th.   The sessions are held in the library’s Meeting Room and on the stage of the Theater, except during school vacation days, (April 11th and 13th), when they will be held in the Community Gallery.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Power at the plate and in the circle propelled the Iona College softball program to a doubleheader sweep over the University of Penn Quakers on Saturday afternoon. 

GAME ONE: Iona 3, Penn 2

Penn struck first in the opening inning behind a pair of leadoff hits from senior Leah Allen and sophomore Sam Pederson.  Allen crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly hit by sophomore Sarah Cwiertnia.

Yard Waste Collection Begins April 3

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Department of Public Works, Bureau of Streets and Highways will begin Yard Waste Collection on Monday, April 3, 2017.

Residents are reminded that in order to be collected, yard waste must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day, in accordance with the following guidelines:

Brush and branches:  No longer than 4 feet in length with a diameter of no more than 3 inches, tied in bundles. DO NOT tie with fishing line, tape or metal wire.

Iona Prep Names Next Upper School Principal

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Westchester’s only all-boys Catholic school to make the “Best Catholic High Schools in New York State” and “Best Private High Schools in New York State” on, Iona Preparatory has named Kieran Daly as its next Upper School principal. Mr. Daly, whose career has spanned more than 30 years at Iona Prep, currently serves as Dean of Students. He will become principal effective July 1, 2017. Mr. Daly has also served at the Upper School as a teacher, Dean of Freshman, Science Chair, Assistant Dean of Discipline and Director of Facilities.
