Monroe Rugby Advances to Semifinal in First-Ever Rugby Sevens Tournament Participation

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Rugby team, in its first year of competition, advanced to the semifinal of the prestigious Tri-State Rugby Conference Sevens Championship at Vassar College on Sunday. Monroe was one of 16 teams across the metropolitan area to participate in the fifth annual tournament.

The championship was structured in four pools of four. The Mustangs finished Pool D 2-1, with victories over previous champions Molloy College and Bard College, but fell to William Paterson University.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Baseball team ripped 20 hits in their 25-6 victory over Orange County Community College on Sunday. The 25 runs and 20 hits are both season-bests for the team.

Monroe wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with two runs in the first. Wayne Roberts led off the game with a bunt single. Troy Davern followed and made the score 2-0 with his team-best third homer of the season.

Monroe Softball Splits Doubleheader with Suffolk County

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Softball team split a doubleheader with Suffolk County Community College on Sunday. They dropped the opener, 12-10, in extra innings, but won game two, 10-3. The team is now 8-6 on the year.

Monroe jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first. Gabrielle Placencia laced an RBI triple, and Kylie Bitz drove in the second run with a double. The Sharks pulled ahead in the second inning, making the score 3-2. The Mustangs evened the score at 3-3 in the third, when Bitz blasted a solo shot to left field.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Head Coach Sean Burke and the Iona College golf program is hosting its annual alumni and supporter gathering on Saturday, April 29.  Former palyers and supporters of the Maroon & Gold can gather at Iona College beginning at 4:00 PM and partake in various festivities in a day celebrating what it means to be a part of Gael nation.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College Lacrosse team found little room to run against Canisius, falling 18-5 Saturday morning.

The Golden Griffs (7-4, 2-0) outshot the Gaels (3-8, 0-2) 30-18. The Maroon & Gold grabbed 13 of 24 controls and connected on three of 10 free position attempts. Iona committed 26 turnovers and were successful on 12 out of 20. clears.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona track & field outdoor program was presented on the West Coast Friday evening at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

In Stanford, Johannes Motschmann placed ninth in the invite 3,000 meter steeplechase for the Gaels. The junior clocked in at 8:50.80. It was his first steeplechase race of the season.

Monroe Baseball Uses Long Balls to Key Third-Straight Win

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- After seeing its first action since sweeping a doubleheader against UConn Avery Point last Sunday, the Monroe College Baseball team got three home runs to help catapult the Mustangs to their third-straight victory, an 8-0 shutout of Orange County Community College on Thursday. Seven different Monroe pitchers each tossed a scoreless inning, while Wayne Roberts, Shadrach Meulens, and Edgardo Bernard all hit long balls.
