Senior Sports Awards Night Honors Student Athletes

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School athletes were honored at the Senior Sports Awards Night ceremony at the Greentree Country Club on June 13. Athletic Director Steve Young presented the awards, which were handed out by New Rochelle High School Principal Reginald Richardson.

The awards were as follows:

Leadership Award: Ethan Manley, Nicholas Townley, Jenna Tammaro, Jordan Wallace, Jeanneney Currie.

Sportsmanship Award: Lily Grantcharova, Matthew Long, Betsey Morgado, Daniel Ayala, Savita Dean, Jonathan Hudson.

ALMS Holds STEAM Fair on Annual Career Day

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- ALMS's family and consumer science teachers together with school counselors hosted the middle school's annual Career Day last month.  

The event included an exciting, interactive and innovative twist: a STEAM Fair.  All seventh grade students were able to hear first-hand about high school life and college readiness from NRHS seniors. They also had the opportunity to attend the STEAM fair and talk with professionals from the community about their career paths.

ALMS Teacher is Among MUN Educators of the Year

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Colleen O'Reilly, the long-time social studies teacher at Albert Leonard Middle School, is among a handful of Model United Nations (MUN) Educators of the Year. She runs the only middle school MUN program in Westchester County.

The award is given by Best Delegate, an organization that works with school districts, nonprofits, governments and education companies to help schools build Model United Nations programs. Since 2010, its training and resources have helped more than 3 million people learn about Model United Nations.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Fellow New Rochelle Board of Education members wished the best to the two longest-serving members, David Lacher and Chrisanne Petrone, who are stepping down from the board at end of the month.

Lacher has served on the board for 25 years, including terms as president and vice president. Petrone served for 10 years, also taking turns as president and vice president.

Isaac E. Young "Money Makers" Win Stock Market Competition

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- These super savvy investors from Isaac E. Young Middle School won the Spring 2017 New York State: Lower Hudson Valley/Westchester County Stock Market Game for their level, bringing their school its second consecutive victory in the annual contest.

Sixth-graders Brittani Varela, Kaediah Barratt, and Joseph Ugalde-Aguilar came in first out of 206 middle schools in the competition. They finished 17th out of 1940 schools overall, including middle and high schools.

Mount Vernon City School District Conducting Mandatory Student Re-Registration

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The Mount Vernon City School District Board of Education will be conducting a mandatory re-registration of all students presently enrolled in the district.

This re-registration will take place at the Board of Education Building 165 N. Columbus Ave.

Students not registered over the summer will not be permitted to attend school in September until the re-registration is complete.

New Rochelle Physician Won of Physician the Year from Westchester Regional Medical Services

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Gigi Madore, MD, FACEP,  medical director of the Emergency Department at Montefiore New Rochelle, won Physician of the Year from Westchester Regional Medical Services. The nomination came from EMS providers.

It is a struggle for many ER directors to cultivate productive relationships with EMS, however Dr. Madore makes it a priority. In addition to her daily to discussions with EMS crew, she holds social and educational gatherings to review cases and create a true care team environment.
