NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Pelham Art Center is pleased to present its highly popular Faculty and Student Showcase on view July 14 – August 19, 2017. A free opening reception will be held on Friday, July 15 from 6:30-8PM.  This annual exhibition features new work in a variety of mediums by the Art Center’s distinguished artist-instructors and enthusiastic students. Exhibited work ranges from charcoal to oils, photographs to collage, and mixed media to ceramics.

Board of Education Appoints Six New Administrators

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Board of Education recently approved the hiring of six new administrators, including two for newly created positions in the school district.

Rekha Liveris was appointed New Rochelle High School's Science Department chairperson. She replaces Marselle Heywood, who spent 10 years in the district. Liveris has been a science teacher at the high school since 2008. She holds two master's degrees; one in school building leadership and another in biotechnology, both from Manhattan College.

City of New Rochelle to host Community Needs Assessment Meetings

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle Development Department will host two Community Needs Assessments meetings to gain input that will help shape City’s five-year plan for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding. The meetings will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at New Rochelle Public Library, 5:00 PM-6:30 PM, and Wednesday, June 28 at the Boys & Girls Club (Remington Branch), 5:30 PM-7:00 PM.

Iona Preparatory Celebrates its Centennial with Special Mass by Timothy Cardinal Dolan

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, visited Iona Preparatory School on Saturday, June 10 to celebrate a special Centennial Mass to commemorate the school’s 100th anniversary year.

Nearly 500 Iona Prep students, alumni, families and friends were in attendance for the Mass at the school, Westchester’s only all-boys K-12 Catholic institution to make the “Best Catholic High Schools in New York State” and “Best Private High Schools in New York State” on Niche.com.

Associate Superintendent Diane Massimo to Retire

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In her 28 years serving New Rochelle schools, Dr. Diane Massimo has been instrumental in projects that have changed the face of education across the district. Now the Associate Superintendent of Schools, who began in 1989 as coordinator of guidance and of high school pupil personnel services, is stepping down.

The City of New Rochelle Chooses Developer for 45 Harrison Street

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- At its June 20 meeting, the New Rochelle City Council unanimously selected MacQuesten Development, LLC as the winning bidder to reimagine a City-owned property at 45 Harrison Street, the current site of New Rochelle Fire Station #1.

MacQuesten’s proposed $110 million, 27-story mixed-use building, which was recommended by the City’s Department of Development, includes  282 residential units, approximately 9,500 square feet of retail, a four-story parking garage and an option for nearly 50,000 square feet of office space.

Sailing School Opens 2017 Summer Operations at Echo Island in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Just off Hudson Park in New Rochelle lies Echo Island. The island has been the home of the Echo Bay Yacht Club for over 100 years and with changing times and a decline in membership, the club reached out to Port Sailing School based at the New Rochelle Municipal Marina to provide additional services. These services will include a children's sailing program, adult sailing lessons, racing program and use of sailing school boats.
