07/24 Beloved Classic Film, The Wizard of OZ, to be Shown at Library 6 PM

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Wizard of Oz will be shown in the New Rochelle Public Library’s summer series of family films, on Monday, July 24 at 6:00 pm.  The 1939 musical stars Judy Garland as Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas who is swept away by a tornado with her dog Toto. Following the Yellow Brick Road to the Land of Oz, she befriends Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), Tin Man (Jack Haley) and the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), who join her in finding the Emerald City. The movie was based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum and originally published on May 17, 1900.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Music and dance of the Middle East will be performed at the New Rochelle Public Library on Tuesday, July 25th, at 7:00 pm, as part of the library’s 30th annual International Music and Dance series. The program is geared for families and individuals of all ages.  Admission is free and limited to the capacity of the Ossie Davis Theater, on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 6:45 pm.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Bokandeye African-American Dance Theater will perform in the New Rochelle Public Library’s 34th annual International Music and Dance series, on Tuesday, August 1st at 7:00 pm, Directed by Anthony Wooden, and accompanied by the region’s leading drummers, the troupe performs dances that relate the rich cultural traditions of African villages, and includes his students of all ages.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The library’s series of Oscar-winning family films will continue on Monday, July 31st, at 6:00 pm, with the showing of Hugo. The 2011 film was based on the Caldecott Medal-winning historical fiction picture book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick and is about a wily and resourceful young boy named Hugo, who lives alone in the Gare Montparnasse railway station in Paris in the 1930s.

Astorino Announces Summer Happenings in Westchester County Pools and Beaches

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino encourages you to jump in on the fun at Westchester’s “Summer Happenings,” a series of special events scheduled at the county-operated pools and beaches this summer. The series will feature Family Fun Days, Public Safety Days, and a sand castle contest.

“In addition to swimming to stay cool this summer, Westchester residents can enjoy music, dancing and learning about our local heroes, or even show off their artistic abilities in a sand castle contest” Astorino said.

The New York State Police Issue Nearly 10,500 Tickets During July 4th Enforcement Period

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Police issued a total of 10,435 tickets statewide during the 4th of July STOP-DWI enforcement campaign. The special enforcement period began on Saturday, July 1, 2017 and continued until midnight on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

During the 96-hour campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, State Police utilized fixed sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, ticketed distracted drivers, and conducted underage drinking details.

They will be shown on alternate weeks on Cablevision Channel 76 on Mondays at 7 pm, Wednesdays at 10 pm. Thursdays at 9:30 pm. They will later be shown on demand at www.vimeo.com.
