Students Shot Off the Rockets

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Students in the Young Engineers School summer math, science and engineering academy shot off the rockets they'd spent much of the week building.

The group is made up of students from Albert Leonard and Isaac E. Young middle schools. The classes are at Albert Leonard.

Some of the rockets were Estes models, fired off with gunpowder. Others were assembled from household objects including a plastic soft drink bottle and the cardboard cylinder from a roll of paper towels, and shot skyward with water pressure.

Rain date will be Wednesday, August 2.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Marking the latest milestone in its large-scale development initiative, the City of New Rochelle and RXR Realty today announced the developer’s proposal for its second major development project in downtown New Rochelle and the first to be constructed on one of the sites controlled by RXR by virtue of the master development agreement between the company and the city. The project, which is to be built on the Church-Division parking lot, will consist of two 28-story towers, with retail at the base.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino and District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. are announcing the formation of a joint Task Force to address the region’s growing heroin and opioid epidemic.

Officers from the county Department of Public Safety will serve on the Task Force alongside prosecutors, criminal investigators and crime analysts from the District Attorney’s Office.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Eunice Yu, a student in The College of New Rochelle (CNR) Graduate School, has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to South Korea in the English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police Department is in for a treat! Tyler Carach, known as the “Donut boy”, will be stopping by the New Rochelle Police Department on Tuesday, August 1. New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll will surprise the 9-year old by swearing him in as Commissioner for the Day at 10 am in NRPD’s training room at 475 North Avenue. Following the ceremony,  Donut boy will meet New Rochelle Police Officers and present them with donuts, as his token of appreciation.
