NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Choice of Westchester opens its new facility in New Rochelle.  The Grand Opening is Thursday, October 19, 2017 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.  Dignitaries from the city and surrounding communities will be on hand, and the evening’s host, executive director, Guy Fessenden, and members of the boards of directors, will be available for comment.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle residents are invited to the  Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration sponsored by the City School District of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Youth Bureau. This celebration will be held at New Rochelle High School on Friday, October 13th starting promptly at 6:30pm (Art Exhibit will begin at 5:30pm).  Join us for a night of poetry, music, dance performances, and much more.  Free Admittance.  All are welcome.

Reminder: DACA/Work Permit Renewal Deadline Oct 5, 2017

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On September 5, 2017, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that requests for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) consideration would no longer be accepted. However, current beneficiaries whose benefits will expire on or by March 5, 2018 may renew their DACA/work permits for two years. The deadline to apply is October 5, 2017.

MBK to Present Free Talk on Implicit Bias

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The public is invited to a talk on implicit bias next Thursday, presented by My Brother's Keeper New Rochelle. The free talk, "We Are All Biased," will explore the question: "To what extent does our bias affect others?"

The 90-minute presentation will be delivered by Dr. Bryant Marks, a professor of psychology at Morehouse College in Atlanta. It begins at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 5, in the Whitney Young Auditorium of New Rochelle High School, 265 Clove Road.

Jefferson Fourth-grader Sets Example Helping Classmate

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Just a month into the new school year, Jefferson Elementary School fourth-grader Zahira Sencion is showing how a small bit of help can make a big difference to others.

Sencion has been helping classmate Damien Colon with his organizational skills to keep Colon focused on his school work as an "organization buddy."

ALMS Students Tour 9/11 Mobile Exhibit

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Albert Leonard Middle School students got an in-depth history lesson on the Sept.11 attacks this week when the 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit came to the school.

The 53-foot tractor trailer, with 1,000 square feet of displays, is a project of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

"I feel that even though it was sad, we should still learn about it," said sixth-grader Fredrick Jere after viewing the exhibit.

Columbus Rallies to Help Victims of Natural Disasters

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Columbus Elementary was a hive of activity on Saturday as students, parents, teachers and community members poured into the school carrying food and supplies for victims of a devastating earthquake in Mexico and storms in the Caribbean.

Principal Michael Galland said the school agreed to serve as a collection site for donations following a request from the Fundación Manos de Esperanza, a New Rochelle charity. When Galland informed the school community about the partnership with Fundación, families began bringing their own donations to help the relief effort.

Volunteers organize donated items on Saturday.
