NRHS House Principal, Middle School English Chair Named

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Board of Education filled two key administrative positions on Tuesday. Daniel Gonzalez, who served as the assistant principal at Isaac E. Young Middle School, was named the House I principal at New Rochelle High School, and Beatrice Lopez, a former assistant principal in the Bronx, was named the new middle school English department chairperson.

38 Educators Celebrate Tenure During Ceremony

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Thirty-eight faculty members were celebrated for achieving tenure at the New Rochelle Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.

The achievement buoyed the educators just in time to greet their students for the new school year in the following days.

"I am excited and proud to have reached this occasion," said Daniel Webster Magnet School special education teacher Cynthia Asiedu-Boateng, one of those who received tenure. "This is a nurturing community where we put the whole child first. That's one of the main reasons that I came here. They're so loving."

I just received the complete meeting package for the 9-6-2017 meeting of the New Rochelle IDA and slides with renderings.

It is late and I do not have time to write an article but want to share this material right away.

Special Needs School Bus Catches Fire at New Rochelle Middle School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- No students were injured according to school officials as a bus parked behind Isaac E. Young Middle School caught fire just as the school day ended.

New Rochelle Fire Department responded to the scene but not before school security staffers used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. A firefighter on scene said the brakes by the right rear wheel caught fire.

Officials from Phoenix Transportation, owners of the bus declined to comment as they waited for a tow truck.

New Rochelle Police and Green Team Taxi Work Together to Capture Burglary Suspect

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police lured, then captured, a burglary suspect from a hiding place on Davenport Neck with the aid of an intrepid taxi driver following a 75 minute police chase that involved more than a dozen police officers, a K-9 unit, and a helicopter unit.

The man was arrested and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With 11 years remaining, the City of New Rochelle is considering an extension to a widely-reviled 30-year tax abatement granted 19 years ago to the developers of what was originally called “the Avalon”. The New Rochelle IDA will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 6th at 7:30 PM. Immediately after the hearing the New Rochelle IDA will act on a SEQRA Determination and Authorization for the owner of 255 Huguenot Street.
