38 Teachers and Other Faculty Members were Granted Tenure on Tuesday Night

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Congratulations to the 38 teachers and other faculty members who were granted tenure on Tuesday night! The New Rochelle Board of Education voted on tenure for teachers at every school during its meeting in New Rochelle High School's Linda E. Kelly Theater.

Here they are, by school, starting with the elementary schools:

Elementary School Students and New Rochelle High School Freshman Began Classes on Wednesday

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The 2017-18 school year is off to a great start! Elementary school students and New Rochelle High School freshman began classes on Wednesday. The other grades followed over the next two days.

Friday was the first day all 11,000 students were due for a full day of classes. Here are a few images from the week.

The Barnard Early Childhood Center Celebrates its Annual 9-11 Ceremony at Amy’s Greenhouse

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Barnard Early Childhood Center community gathered today for its annual 9-11 ceremony at Amy’s Greenhouse, which was built at the school with donations in the name of Amy O’Doherty, who perished at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. She was 23 and the daughter of Barnard teacher Geraldine Davie, who has since retired.

Mayor Noam Bramson, Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne, Brother Kevin Devlin of Iona College and others took part in the commemoration. New Rochelle police and firefighters attended.

Girls Soccer Player of the Week (Sept. 11): Ruby Hastie, New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- If last week was any indication, whenever New Rochelle scores a goal this season, you can bank on Ruby Hastie having a hand (or rather, a foot) in it.

The senior center midfielder did it all for the Huguenots, registering five goals and four assists in three shutout wins. Hastie manufactured all nine of New Rochelle's goals for the week.

Hastie is the first lohud girls soccer player of the week this year, and is being recognized for her accomplishments on the field from Sept. 4-10.

Volleyball Player of the Week (Sept. 11): Rachel Darius, New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle was pegged as a strong competitor in Class AA at the start of the season, but the Huguenots have now firmly established themselves as a title contender after a stellar opening week of the season.

Leading the charge was senior outside hitter Rachel Darius, who registered 38 kills, eight service aces, and 15 digs in wins against Class AA foes Arlington and North Rockland. New Rochelle also won the Scarsdale tournament on Saturday, where Darius was a force throughout the entire day.

Stellar Defensive Effort Lifts No. 2 Monroe Men’s Soccer over No. 4 Eastern Florida

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- An own goal was the difference maker in an incredible defensive matchup on Thursday at City Park, as the No. 2-ranked Monroe College men's soccer team defeated No. 4 Eastern Florida State College by a score of 1-0 in a highly-anticipated battle of Top-5 opponents. The Mustangs remain perfect on the year and go to 5-0, while the Titans suffer their first setback to fall to 3-1.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- There was plenty of scoring to go around on Monday, as five different members of the No. 2 Monroe College men's soccer team scored in the Mustangs' 5-0 victory over Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) at City Park. The Mustangs jump to 4-0 with their first shutout of the season, while the Barons drop to 1-1.

Blue Angels Win Five Set Match on the Road

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Women's Volleyball team played on the road Tuesday night at non-conference opponent The Mount Saint Mary College Knights in a five set thriller 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, and 15-9. Sophomores Imani DeBose and Victoria Alomar led CNR's offensive with 13 kills each. Alomar led the team with the highest hitting percentage of the night, finishing with a .290.
