New York State Police to Crack Down on Drinking and Driving During the Thanksgiving Holiday

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Police will conduct a Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period from Wednesday, November 22, through Sunday, November 26, 2017, in an effort to prevent tragedies caused by impaired, distracted, aggressive or reckless driving.

During this enforcement period, Troopers will be highly visible, and drivers can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints and additional DWI patrols.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), Aliso Viejo, CA, has again conferred its gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (CCU) at White Plains Hospital. The Hospital is a repeat recipient of the Beacon award; having first received it in 2014, and is the only hospital NICU in New York State to receive a gold-level Beacon Award this year.

PELHAM, NY -- Join the Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) on Sunday, December 10th at 3:00 p.m. for the Nutcracker Magical Matinee, an annual holiday tradition for families and kids of all ages. The cinematic version of New York City Ballet’s classic production brings George Balanchine’s choreography to the big screen. The Nutcracker will be presented in the Main Hall, at a special film event trimmed with beautifully costumed ballerinas from Ballet Arts greeting attendees upon arrival, a live dance performance, and photo opportunities.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In continuation of an annual tradition and to promote holiday shopping in New Rochelle, the City will offer two hours of free holiday parking in certain municipal lots.

Free two-hour holiday parking in municipal lots will be in effect from 9 am to 9 pm beginning Thursday, December 1 through Saturday, December 30. Normal parking regulations will resume on Monday, January 1, 2018.

Astorino will join in honoring the achievements of 70 senior citizens from 30 municipalities throughout Westchester during the 35th Annual Senior Citizens Hall of Fame Awards Luncheon on Friday, Dec. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.  This year’s program, the largest to date, will present the Top Honoree award to Iris Freed, a 97-year-old Larchmont resident with more than 30 years of community service.

NEW YORK, NY -- Hudson Valley Honor Flight will honor World War II and Korean War veterans at its annual Lunch of Honor on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Anthony’ Pier 9 in Newburgh.

The organization will also honor The America the Beautiful Concert Team, featuring Jimmy Starr, for its many contributions to the organization.

Offering the luncheon’s keynote address is U.S. Marine Sgt. Rodney “Rocky” Sickmann, a former Iranian Hostage Crisis prisoner of war.

PELHAM, NY -- The gallery ushers in 2018 with a stunning new portrait exhibition, Near To You. On view will be painting and sculpture by six exciting artists committed to the language and texture of paint and painting as well as challenging approaches to portraiture itself. What does it mean to capture the impression or image of a person? What is it that the viewer recognizes in a portrait? The exhibition will be on view January 19 – March 24, with an opening reception on Friday, January 19, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. A catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition.

New Rochelle VFW Commander Peter Parente Arrested on Domestic Violence and Weapons Charges

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Peter Parente, Commander of VFW Post 459 in New Rochelle was arrested at his home Wednesday by New Rochelle police on domestic violence and weapons charges. He is married with two children.

Parente remained in lockup at the New Rochelle Police Station over the Thanksgiving holiday. He is expected to be arraigned Friday morning at New Rochelle City Court.
