NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Freshman right-handed pitcher Francisco Justo (Bronx, N.Y. / James Monroe HS) of the 2018 NJCAA Div. I Eastern District Champion Monroe College baseball team has been selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday. Justo was the 363rd overall pick of the draft, going in the 12th round.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Musicians on stilts, giant bubbles, games and crafts are all part of the fun scheduled for the New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-off event on Saturday, June 23rd, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. “Libraries Rock” is the theme of the 2018 Summer Reading Game, and NRPL will be celebrating   “reading rock stars” to help inspire children to soak-up a summer of reading pleasure.

Yonkers Felon Pleads Guilty to Robbing Women at Mount Vernon Train Station

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Arthur Branch of Yonkers pleaded guilty Wednesday to Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a felony, for an incident that occurred Sept. 9, 2016, at a Mount Vernon train station. He faces 25 years to life in state prison and will be sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender. Branch is scheduled to appear for sentencing June 27.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Downtown Grand Market is back! Now celebrating its fifth year, downtown’s favorite outdoor event will open this weekend with more family-friendly attractions, activities for adults and children and new vendors along with returning favorites.

Presented by the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), the market kicks off June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Ruby Dee Park at Library Green, along Huguenot Street between Lawton Street and Memorial Highway. It runs the same place and time every Saturday through Oct. 27.

101 Students Inducted into National Honor Society

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School inducted 101 students into the National Honor Society earlier this week in a ceremony that highlighted the four standards that are central to a society member: leadership, character, service and scholarship.

The ceremony was held on May 22 in the Whitney M. Young Jr. Auditorium. Each of the inductees received a certificate. Art Faculty member Alexandra Brock was honored at the ceremony.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Opera, Westchester’s longest running opera company, will present Giacomo Puccini’s La Boheme, from June 21-24, 2018 in the Frank J. Auriana Theatre at the Ursuline School, 1345 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. The production will be directed by Company co-founder and artistic director Camille Coppola, with orchestra and chorus conducted by Brian Holman, set design by Anthony Valbiro and lighting design by Adam Welsh. The opera will be sung in Italian, with English supertitles.
