School's In! Students Arrive for First Day

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Diego Torres, a brand new ninth-grader, couldn't wait to get to New Rochelle High School today.

"I couldn't sleep because I was so excited," said Torres, who hopes to wrestle for New Rochelle's varsity team this winter. "I hope for varsity. If not, then JV. I also want to do Spanish Literature Club, but I'm not sure."

School Leaders, Counselors Take on New Positions in District

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The 2018-2019 school year in the City School District of New Rochelle began with several administrators in new positions.

New Rochelle High School Assistant Principal Joseph Starvaggi is serving as the school's interim principal. Camille Edwards-Thomas, who had been House II principal in the high school, is the interim assistant principal.

Educator Fredericka Butler has been named interim assistant principal at ALMS. Patrick Keevins vacated the position earlier.

24 Educators Celebrate Tenure During Ceremony

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Twenty-four faculty members and administrators were celebrated for achieving tenure at the New Rochelle Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.

During the ceremony in the Linda E. Kelly Theatre, each tenure recipient stood, one after the other, to be praised by his or her school principal. 

Faculty members generally achieve tenure after two or three years, depending on whether they had been granted tenure at another district before joining New Rochelle's faculty.

Students Enjoy Upgrades to Buildings and Grounds

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School students found a spruced up main entrance welcoming them to school this week, while athletes played on a brand new field, watched over by a refurbished tower with working clocks.

The enhancements were among the projects in Phase II of the $106.5 million in construction work funded with bonds approved by voters in May 2016. At $46 million, it is the largest of the four phase process.

The north field on the North Avenue side of the high school has been installed.

Outreach Committee Seeking Members

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Advocacy and Outreach Committee, which strengthens the District through engagement with community organizations, elected officials, students, families and staff, is seeking five members from the community. Meetings are expected to be held on the second Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon at Central Administration.
