Rose Ann (Caiazzo) Bongo, Mother of Isaac E. Young MS Principal, Passes at 86

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Rose Ann (Caiazzo) Bongo passed away on November 27. She was 86 years old.

She was a lifelong New Rochelle resident, and graduated from Albert Leonard High School in 1947. She became a cosmetologist and worked in New Rochelle beauty shops for nearly forty years.

She married Anthony Bongo in 1956, who passed away in 2012.

She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and loved attending daily mass.

New Rochelle Man Dies After Truck Collision Near Trump Tower

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A New Rochelle man died following a collision involving a truck at the intersection of Hugenot Street and LeCount Place in front of Trump Tower.

According to police, the man was hit by the truck, knocked over and then hit his head hard on the roadway surface. The man was taken to Montefiore Hospital New Rochelle where he pronounced dead from a head trauma. The next of kin have been notified.

The incident occurred at about 5 p.m.

Windows Smashed at New Rochelle High School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Eight windows in two classrooms at New Rochelle High School were smashed out causing more than $1,000 in property damage, according to an Incident Report filed by the City School District of New Rochelle. The classrooms are Room 147 and Room 149 which face out towards the driveway leading towards the administrative parking lot near the school planetarium.

The damage was discovered early Monday morning and appears to have occurred over the weekend.

Students Donned Purple on Nov. 16 to Raise Awareness of Pancreatic Cancer

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- At the Henry Barnard Early Childhood Center, the staff (pictured) and students donned purple on Nov. 16 to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. The event was first organized at the school several years ago by kindergarten teacher Tara Hernandez in memory of her mother, Gigi Shanes-Hernandez.

11/30 Exhibition Opening by Rochelle High School PAVE Art Students 6 PM

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Join the New Rochelle High School PAVE art students at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday (11/30) as they open an exhibition of painting, sculpture, drawing and graphics created during the first marking period.

The works include those inspired by their trip to the The New York Botanical Garden to see the famed glass work of Dale Chihuly.

The exhibition will be on display through December in the bridge to House IV in NRHS.

The Nutcracker at New Rochelle High School This Weekend

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Tchaikovsky would be in for a surprise if he attended the performances of The Nutcracker at New Rochelle High School this weekend, featuring some 80 New Rochelle students.

The Ajkun Ballet Theatre has incorporated some hip-hop into the seasonal classic. The students who portray the mice get to show their hip-hop skills, while others perform more traditional ballet moves. The students come mostly from the District elementary schools, with some from Albert Leonard Middle School and the private Thornton-Donovan School.
