NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's basketball team picked up the win in its home opener, as the Mustangs took down Gateway Community College by a score of 78-56 Saturday afternoon as part of the Monroe Classic at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs improve to 3-2 on the season with the victory.

Library Trustee’s Election Win Creates Vacancy on Board, Replacement Sought

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees has announced that Library Trustee Damon Maher resigned from the NRPL Board of Trustees at the Board’s November 9th meeting. Mr. Maher was elected County legislator for District 10 in the November 7th election. The Board is now seeking applications from residents interested in serving the remainder of Mr. Maher’s term, which will end on June 30, 2018.

State Police Encourage Pistol Permit Holders to Recertify Ahead of Approaching Deadline

NEW YORK, NY -- The State Police is reminding pistol permit holders of the upcoming deadline to complete recertification of their permit.

Recent changes to New York State Penal Law require license holders to recertify every five years. Individuals who were issued a Pistol /Revolver License before January 15, 2013, must recertify by January 31, 2018.

The deadline to recertify for those issued a license on or after January 15, 2013, is five years from the date the license was issued.

There is no cost for recertification.

State Labor Department Releases Preliminary October 2017 Area Unemployment Rates

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for October 2017. Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.

Sit back and enjoy the commotion that ensues when the supremely pleasant Edward P. Dowd (senior Nicholas Baker) introduces those around him to his best friend - a six-foot white rabbit only he can see. The show has been a classic since it debuted on Broadway in the 1940s. Peer Tours for New Students Create Warmer Welcome at Trinity

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- When Trinity Elementary School fifth-graders Erick Alvarez and Catalina Fuentes recently showed a new schoolmate from Guatemala around the building, they were kicking off a program to help welcome students from other countries and those who do not yet speak English fluently.

Alvarez and Fuentes gave their tour in Spanish, visiting the main office, nurses' office, auditorium and cafeteria, and introducing their new friend to the CAMPEL (computer, art, music, physical education and library) teachers.

In Thanksgiving Parade and Beyond, NRHS Band Marches On

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- If you come out to see New Rochelle's Thanksgiving Parade on Saturday, be sure to cheer for the New Rochelle High School marching band. About 60 student musicians will be playing rousing tunes in the procession, a seasonal favorite event in New Rochelle.

It's been a busy season for the band. The musicians have drawn applause at six New Rochelle High School football games and played patriotic songs at the Veterans Day ceremony in downtown New Rochelle's Memorial Plaza last weekend.

They're looking forward to the parade.

Webster Students Stage Show with Life-Size Puppets

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The papier mâché puppets were so large that it took three Daniel Webster Magnet School fourth-graders to operate just one.

"You are the arm; be the arm," teacher Adam King reminded the two students who each operated one limb, while another held the torso and head aloft. They were rehearsing with Peacemaker, the main puppet character in a tale about the uniting of the Iroquois peoples.
