Free Children’s Programs at the Libraries this Summer

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- This summer, the New Rochelle Public Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library (HCL) are again offering a host of free enriching programs, from morning to night, each weekday. Designed to encourage participation in the Summer Reading Game, themed “Libraries Rock,” the programs offer great educational experiences through the end of August.  This year’s slate of free programs includes workshops in architecture, New Rochelle’s natural and historical wonders, crafts, yoga and creative movement, creative writing, Mexican dance, and more.

State Labor Department Releases Preliminary May 2018 Area Unemployment Rates

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for May 2018. Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School hockey coach Paul Viggiano lost his mother, Nancy Viggiano, to lung cancer. Coach Viggiano lives in the area and also serves as Director of Business Administration and Marketing for AG Williams Painting Company. “Dealing with a loved one who has cancer is a traumatic experience and it is important to try and make the best of situation, as best as possible under the circumstances. For cancer patients, losing their hair is one of the most shocking experiences to go through. When we went shopping for wigs, we made it a fun experience though.

Voters Approve 2018-2019 proposed budget for City School District of New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Residents today approved the City School District of New Rochelle’s proposed $270,381,160 budget for the 2018-2019 school year that stays within the state tax cap. The plan preserves programming and includes funds for several positions and safety measures.

The vote was 1,757-1,004. The results remain unofficial pending the counting of affidavit ballots.

New Rochelle High School Suffers Another Blow as High School Junior Takes Her Own Life

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A junior at New Rochelle High School has died, according to an email from the City School District of New Rochelle.

In a joint statement from Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne and New Rochelle High School Principal Reggie Richardson, the two school leaders announced that a New Rochelle High School junior took her own life.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the student,” said Osborne.
