NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Students from the City School District of New Rochelle helped the Westchester Coalition of Italian American Organizations celebrate Italian Heritage and Culture Month this week.
Six District students were among those honored by the organization for excelling in studying the Italian language. They received certificates in the Presentation and Proclamation of Italian Heritage and Culture Month in Eastchester High School on Tuesday evening.
Thirteen students from Jefferson Elementary School took the stage to sing songs in Italian as part of the ceremony.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- This weekend, when New Rochelle pulls out all the stops to showcase the arts, New Rochelle High School students will join in the celebration. Student collages and paintings will be on display in the school and student performances will take place at the Starbucks in Wykagyl.
The annual weekend-long New Rochelle & Pelham ArtsFest begins today and invites all to enjoy creative works and live performances in venues throughout the city and neighboring town. NRHS students' events in the festival will take place tomorrow. They are:
NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Anny Vanegas, a third grade teacher at Columbus Elementary, co-presented a webinar Monday on using digital media in the classroom. It was part of an initiative called Bringing the Universe into America's Classrooms, a collaborative project between PBS affiliate WGBH and NASA. The program launched in 2015 when NASA awarded WGBH nearly $10 million to develop digital media tools and resources that could be used in STEM education. Vanegas began working with the program as a teacher advisor in 2016. She is one of about 50 educators in that role across the country.
