WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Andrea Stewart Cousins, the NYS Senate’s Democratic Conference Leader and local State Senator, has officially kicked off her re-election campaign. Senator Stewart-Cousins has served Westchester families in the State Senate since 2006 and represents communities in Greenburgh, part of White Plains, part of New Rochelle, part of Yonkers and Scarsdale. The Democratic Primary Election will take place on Thursday, September 13 and the General Election will take place on Tuesday, November 6.

NEW YORK, NY -- The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks), the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Canal Corporation reminds all boat operators to be extra vigilant and review all safe boating procedures before hitting the waters in flood impacted regions. Heavy rains and flash flooding in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions have introduced new hidden dangers and disrupted previously dormant dangers beneath the surface that are not visible due to elevated murky and muddy water levels.

NEW YORK, NY -- In July 2018, New York State’s private sector job count rose by 7,900, or 0.1%, to 8,192,300, a new, all-time employment high, according to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor. Since the beginning of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration, New York State’s economy has added 1,098,200 private sector jobs and experienced employment growth in 79 of the past 91 months.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Good afternoon- this is a message from the New Rochelle Police Department regarding coyotes. There has been a report of a coyote sighting in the area of Hansen Lane. Please exercise the following cautions to avoid conflict: Be mindful of children and pets while outdoors. Do not feed coyotes. Remove all outside food sources including pet food and bird seed and make your garbage inaccessible. Don’t let your pets run free. If you see a seemingly healthy coyote, be aggressive in your behavior: make loud noises, wave your arms, throw sticks and stones.

Engel, a top member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today announced the Export-Import Bank has financed $388,857 in exports for small businesses in New York’s 16th Congressional District during the month of July. The Export-Import bank helps American businesses insure international sales, finance foreign purchases of American products, and generate the working capital needed to expand into new markets outside the U.S.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A dedication of “Gabrielle’s Corner” was held on Thursday, August 16th at the Huguenot Children’s Library, located in front of New Rochelle High School.  The lovely reading nook and specialized collection of books is a gift made in memory of Gabrielle White, who was suddenly granted her “angel wings” in June of 2017.

New Rochelle Police Officer Dies of 9/11-Related Illness

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Hundreds of mourners are expected for the funeral Monday of New Rochelle police officer Kathleen O’Connor. A funeral mass will be held Monday morning at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle.

O’Connor died Thursday after a long battle with a 9/11 related illness..

After the September 11th Terrorist Attack of the World Trade Center, Officer O’Connor responded to Ground Zero to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts. She volunteered her time to help other first responders sift through the debris piles.

Former New Rochelle High School Principal Paid $160,000 to Resign for Second Time

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City School District of New Rochelle spent $160,000 in taxpayer dollars in August to get from Reginald Richardson what he offered for free in July — namely, to go away.

In exchange for Richardson’s resignation and his waiver of all claims against the District, both parties agreed that Richardson would be paid a lump gross sum of $160,000 within 10 days after ratification of his Separation Agreement by the New Rochelle Board of Education.

The board approved Resolution Number 19-80-4, accepting Richardson’s registration on August 7th.
