NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  For the second year in a row, the Iona Prep “Plungers” have been named the top team in all of New York State for their fundraising efforts as part of the Special Olympics Polar Plunge. The Gaels raised $35,705 at the 9th annual Westchester Polar Plunge, with more than 100 students jumping into frigid waters at Glen Island Park on November 18.

City officials briefed businesses on new policing initiatives, and school officials outlined new student safety and security practices.

State Police to increase DWI enforcement during Super Bowl Weekend

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Police will join local law enforcement agencies across the state in an effort to crack down on impaired driving during Super Bowl weekend. The STOP-DWI campaign will include underage drinker enforcement, increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify and arrest impaired drivers. The campaign runs from Saturday February 3, until 3 a.m. on Monday, February 5.

Fire at New Rochelle Radiology Office

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Fire Department responded to a report of an explosion of an MRI Machine at the offices of New Rochelle Radiology at 175 Memorial Highway this afternoon.

An alarm sounded and the building was evacuated. Some patients, still in robes, were kept warm in cars outside.

Deputy Chief John Reed said there were indications the fire may have started in a closet near the MRI Machine but was awaiting a full inspection.

There were no injuries.

Two New Rochelle High School Students Found by Homeowner in House a Block from Campus

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police are investigating a report of a burglary at 65 Calton Road on Monday afternoon.

The homeowner told police she returned home at around noon and found two teenaged boys in her residence.

The teenagers are believed to be New Rochelle High School students based on information obtained by Talk of the Sound. The District has not released any official statement.

“There was no evidence of forced entry,” said New Rochelle Police Captain Robert Gazzola. "The point of entry is unknown".
