CASE CLOSED: Former New Rochelle Elementary School Principal Sentenced to Three Years Probation on Petit Larceny Charge

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- It was a sad ending to a tragic situation when a beloved former New Rochelle elementary school administratorl was sentenced to three years probabtion for stealing money.

Sonya Nunez, 45, of Bronxville, NY plead guilty on May 31, 2016 to one count of Petit Larceny. In exchange for her guilty plea and restitution of $4,525, she was promised a sentence of 3 years probation with gambling treatment which was ordered today by Judge Anthony Carbone in New Rochelle City Court. Nunez previously made restitution. She must also pay a $500 fine.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- John Gallagher, the former Director of Environmental Services for the City School District of New Rochelle, pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Karas in White Plains federal court to bribery in connection with a scheme to solicit bribes from an outside contractor to channel school district business to the contractor’s company. The guilty plea was accounted by Joon H. Kim, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Two Alarm Fire Rips Through Multi-Family Home in New Rochelle, 1 Firefighter Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Firefighters called a second alarm immediately upon arriving at a structure fire at 48 4th Street in New Rochelle’s West End.

The building owner pulled up to his house shortly after 9:30 a.m. with his wife and daughter in his car to find the first and second floor on fire. No one was in the home at the time.

The fire was declared under control 45 minutes later, said Deputy Chief Scott Bradley.

One firefighter suffered a wrist injury, said Bradley.

Stabbing Incident in Department Store Parking Garage in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A person was stabbed in the head and chest on Saturday evening at about 8 p.m. in what police are describing as a robbery on the first floor of the parking garage about a 100 feet away from the entrance to the outsMarshall's Department Store on Potter Avenue in New Rochelle.

The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center. There was no word on the medical condition of the victim.

The suspect, described as a male/black fled to an exit on the far side of the parking garage near where stairs lead out towards the Potter Avenue Bridge.
