Residency Verification Schedule Announced

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As the districtwide residency verification initiative moves forward, families of Albert Leonard Middle School students will soon receive letters suggesting times when they can come to the school to complete the process. The schedule is as follows:

ALMS Artist Named Finalist in Countywide Mural Competition

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Emma Farley, an Albert Leonard Middle School artist and eighth-grader, was the only middle schooler of four finalists in the "Colors of Music" Student Mural Contest held by the Music Conservatory of Westchester.

The contest, which was supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, accepted numerous entries by middle school and high school students from around the county. Farley's submission was a vibrantly colored depiction of traditional and contemporary musical styles from around the globe.

FUSE Hands Out 13,000 Books to Students

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- It was a book lovers' dream come true.

Stacks of novels, picture books and more rising from tables and the gymnasium floor, all for free.

That was the scene in the Trinity Elementary School last Saturday when members of the New Rochelle Federation of United School Employees (FUSE) handed out 13,000 books. Students from throughout the City School District of New Rochelle were welcome to take as many volumes as they wanted.

Board Fields Questions at First Town Hall Meeting

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Board of Education, with help from administrators, fielded questions about everything from school security and academics to the conditions of sidewalks near schools in the Board's first Town Hall meeting on Thursday evening.

Billed as the Back to School Kickoff, the meeting was the first in what will become a series of sessions offering community members the opportunity to address Board members directly about any concerns they may have. It was held in the Whitney M. Young Jr. Auditorium of New Rochelle High School.

Schools to Open Late on October 1 for Procedure Test

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- City School District of New Rochelle schools will open late for students on Monday, Oct. 1, as a test run of procedures that may be employed during inclement weather and other situations. Dismissals will be at the usual times. Lunch will be served in all schools.

Faculty and staff members will report to schools at the usual times for professional development.

Fall Leaf Collection Begins October 9 & Yard Waste Collection Ends Oct. 26

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Department of Public Works reminds property owners that Fall Leaf Collection will begin on Tuesday, October 9 and conclude at the end of December. All leaves must be placed in biodegradable paper bags or open containers weighing no more than 75 lbs. for collection. Remember, loose leaves will not be picked up. Yard Waste Collection will continue until October 26 but must be placed separately from leaves at curbside.

Bags and containers can be placed at the curb anytime but must be placed at curb by 7AM on the following days for pickup:
