NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Down by only three goals to No. 13 Hartwick College with 5:24 left in regulation, the Iona women's water polo team fell 20-15 in their home opener this afternoon at Hynes Pool.

Senior Devika Joshi, senior Kayla Allen and freshman Jordan Van Reeken led the Gaels (2-12) with three goals each. Seniors Hannah Schultz and Megan Hofer had two scores each, while senior Karli Normand and freshman Laura Rockett added one goal apiece.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  Opening a three-game weekend trip at Norfolk State University, the Iona College baseball fell to Stony Brook this evening by a final score of 5-3 in a non-conference tilt.

The Gaels (0-4) opened the scoring in the first half inning as Fran Kinsey led off with a double down the left field line. Two groundouts later, the junior scored the first run with the RBI going to Sean Scales.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In a classic back-and-forth matchup that went down to the wire at the Monroe Athletic Complex, the Monroe College men's basketball team came out on top, 60-59, over Harcum College Thursday evening, claiming the No. 1 seed for next weekend's Regional Championship Tournament. The Mustangs improve to 19-10 with the win, while Harcum drops to 21-8 on the year.

Strong Defensive Performance Lifts Monroe Women’s Basketball over Baltimore City

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's basketball team turned in a strong defensive effort en route to a 56-46 victory over Baltimore City Community College Thursday evening at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs improve to 16-11 with the win, while the Panthers fall to 21-7.

Both defenses looked strong to kick off Thursday's contest, resulting in a 7-6 lead for Monroe past the midway point of the first quarter. Both teams continued trading baskets until the Mustangs closed the period on a 4-0 run, giving them a 15-10 advantage after the first frame.

Daylight Stabbing in Downtown New Rochelle on Friday Afternoon

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A person was stabbed in front of 15 Anderson Street in downtown New Rochelle shortly after 2 p.m. this afternoon.

The victim was taken to New Rochelle Montefiore Hospital, according to police. No word on condition.

A suspect, described as a Male/Hispanic wearing a blue hoodie and a Yankee hat, was last seen heading in the direction of North Avenue from Anderson Street.


FBI Seeks Fugitive Wanted in Connection with New Rochelle-Based Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigation

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted in connection with an investigation into the Hell’s Angels outlaw motorcycle gang operating New Rochelle, NY.  Agents and US Marshals are searching for Christopher Slightam, who was released on bail after being arrested and charged in February 2017 on federal RICO and narcotics conspiracy charges.  Slightam pleaded guilty and was ordered to surrender to US Marshals in July 2017, but he failed to appear.

New York Archdiocese to Close Holy Name of Jesus School in New Rochelle; Will Relocate to Holy Family School in Fall 2018

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In a letter to parents sent today, the New York Archdiocese has announced plans to shutter Holy Name of Jesus School in New Rochelle at the end of the current term. The school will be relocated to Holy Family Parish, also in New Rochelle,  in September 2018 and take the name of the parish as Holy Family School.

Holy Name is both a victim of its own success and collateral damage from the ceiling collapse at Daniel Webster Elementary School.

New Rochelle School Violence Task Force Delayed Due to Unexpected Volunteer Demand

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Dr. Jonathan Brice notified volunteers for the New Rochelle Task Force on Reducing Violence in the Lives of Children and Youth that there will be a delay in-naming members to the Task Force.

Citing a "larger-than-expected number of responses – almost 300 applications," Brice said "it will take longer than expected to carefully review all of the candidates in order to assemble the best Task Force possible."
