Demand for Power Reaches New 2018 High

NEW YORK, NY -- Con Edison customers have set a new high for the year for demand for power. 

The company provided 12,766 megawatts of electricity at 5 p.m. today to customers in New York City and Westchester County, N.Y. Before today, the high for the year was 12,635 megawatts at 5 p.m. on Aug. 29. The all-time record of 13,322 megawatts was set at 5 p.m. on July 19, 2013.

Con Edison urges customers to conserve energy and save money by using energy wisely during hot spells. Customers can lower their bills by using air conditioning and other appliances efficiently.

NEW YORK, NY -- To mark National Grandparents Day, Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood today issued an alert to New Yorkers about the “Grandparent Scam,” a common phone scam that targets senior citizens with calls from fraudsters that pose as a grandchild of the victim. Attorney General Underwood also shared a public service announcement that explains how the scam works and offers tips on how to avoid becoming a victim.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- September is National Preparedness Month, serving as a reminder that we all must take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for the types of emergencies that could affect us where we live, work, and visit.

The City of New Rochelle sends emergency alerts through our New Ro Alert messaging system. Through the portal, users can customize their preferred message delivery options such as text, email and/or phone calls to multiple phone numbers, including office and cell.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Through October, the festive Grand Market in Ruby Dee Park at Library Green will continue providing a bounty of fresh, local produce, artisanal foods and crafts, and family fun each Saturday, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. On October 6th, a Vegan Food event will take place all day, with samples and recipes for everyone to enjoy. From 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Juggles the Magical Clown will perform hilarious tricks and juggling for the younger set. For grown-ups, the Barndog Band takes “the stage” from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm.

Library Offers “Sing Your Heart Out” Workshops

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library’s “Sing Your Heart Out!” workshops for singers ages 55 & older resume this fall on Saturdays, October 6th through December 15th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, in the library’s Ossie Davis Theater. Music aficionado Robert Puleo continues to lead these popular workshops, which help participants gain confidence in singing, learn to sing in a chorale group, and have fun. The groups steadily gains repertoire for the culminating Holiday Performance, which will be presented to the public on Sunday, December 16, at 3:00 pm.

The fall hours for the Main Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library are as follows:

Wednesdays: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Fridays and Saturdays: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Parks and Recreation hosted the 16th Annual Kids Snapper Fishing Derby on September 9, 2018. The day was also honored as “Robert A. Cerreta Day” with a mayoral proclamation for late organizer who passed away this summer.

"Carrying forth this event is a fitting tribute to our cherished Marina advocate, Bob Cerreta; what a wonderful legacy," says Parks and Recreation Commissioner Bill Zimmermann.
