Historic Wildcliff Burns in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As rain and wind lashed the building, flames gutted a 130-year old historic residence perched atop a hill overlooking Long Island Sound in New Rochelle.

Wildcliff is a total loss.

Designed by prominent architect Alexander Jackson Davis in the gothic revival style and built in 1855. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 2002.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- “I’m pissed about it,” an emotional Anthony Bambrola, Davis Elementary School Principal told a gathering of the PTA on Tuesday — mostly moms, a few dads and one young child.

“But I’m pissed with a purpose,” he added.

“Pissed” about what, and with what purpose, was unclear.

What is clear is that the situation at Davis underscores the longstanding practice of withholding damaging information from the public and other means of deception adopted by Jeff Kehl, the Board of Education and central and building administrators.

Report Card Schedule Announced

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City School District of New Rochelle has announced its schedule for the distribution of report cards and secondary school Interim Progress Reports (IPR) for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year.

First-period report cards for New Rochelle High School and both middle schools were posted on the Home Access Center (HAC) yesterday (Nov. 20) and are expected to arrive in the mail by December 3.

IPRs, which are given only to middle and high school students, were distributed for the first marking period in October.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Upwards of 100 second-graders and their parents came together in the Columbus Elementary School cafeteria recently for an evening of STEM learning focused on problem-solving and family fun! Teachers from the school's second grade team - Antoinette Koehler, Kelly Kalinowski, Rana Rabadi, Vanessa Guzman-Cruz and Fran DelFico - prepared an overview of what STEM is and created three separate challenges for the family teams.

Huguenots Play for State Title on Saturday

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle will play Rochester-based Aquinas Institute, the Section 5 winner, for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA championship on Saturday. It's the school's first trip back to the state championship game since 2012.

"We're going to have to play our optimum best to bring home the flag," said New Rochelle Coach Lou DiRienzo. "I'm sure my players are going to put their best foot forward. It's an honor to be at the party, but we're not just satisfied with being invited. We want to come home with the prize."

Taxi Passenger Thrown from Vehicle in Thanksgiving Morning Car Crash in New Rochelle; Two Injured, One Seriously

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Joseph Vessechia, 27, of Yorktown Heights, NY was arrested on drunk driving charges on Thanksgiving after the vehicle he was driving, a silver 4-door Toyota Camry, struck a Union Taxi at about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Echo Avenue.

A passenger in the taxi was seriously injured after being thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where police say she is expected to recover from her injuries.

The taxi driver was not seriously injuries.
