City of New Rochelle Receives $2.5M NYS Grant for Pedestrian Safety

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle has received $2.54 million from New York State for pedestrian signal improvements, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s office announced today. The grant is part of a $62 million investment in the groundbreaking Pedestrian Safety Action Plan, a multi-agency initiative to utilize engineering, education and enforcement campaigns to enhance pedestrian safety across Upstate New York and on Long Island.

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application from 14 Le Count Place LLC for a site known as 14 Le Count Standard Printing, site ID #C360176. This site is in the City of New Rochelle, within the County of Westchester, and is located at 14 LeCount Pl, 207-211 North Ave, 455-463 Main St.

A copy of the application and other relevant documents are available at the document repository located at New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, NY 10801.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Department of Public Works hosted a Truck Day event for kindergartners and first graders at Columbus Elementary School (Washington Ave, New Rochelle) on Friday, June 8. Students had the opportunity to explore the department’s ‘big trucks’ and at the same time learn about the important role Public Works plays in our community.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In May, a woman from New Rochelle who lives in Germany was looking for a way for a way for her 87 year old mother to socialize and get out of her house more.  At the suggestion of Professor Carl Procario-Foley, the Director of the Office of Mission and Ministry at Iona College, she contacted us. Her mother is now a member, attending our events, and receiving our services.

NEW YORK, NY -- In May 2018, New York State’s private sector job count rose by 13,500, or 0.2%, to 8,166,300, a new, all-time employment high, according to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor. Since the beginning of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration, New York State’s economy has added 1,072,200 private sector jobs and experienced employment growth in 77 of the past 89 months.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Science experiments, games and exhibits enthralled students, parents and teachers at the recent Albert Leonard Middle School PTA Science Festival. Hosted by the PTA's STEAM Committee, it was the first science festival at the school in recent history. Among those taking part in the educational festivities was Albot, a robot created by the LEGO League Robotics Club at ALMS.

07/10 Greek Music and Dance Performance at Library 7 PM

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The 35th annual International Music and Dance series at the New Rochelle Public Library will kick-off on Tuesday, July 10th, from 7:00 pm – 7:50 pm. Authentic dances from various islands and mainland Greece will be performed by costumed members of the Holy Trinity Dance Troupe, of the New Rochelle Greek Orthodox Church.  The free performance is suitable for all ages and will include some volunteer audience participation.
