Girlfriend Invites Home Invaders into Boyfriends Home; Three Men Duct Tape Boyfriend then Burglarize Apartment

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A woman allowed three men to enter her boyfriend’s apartment so they could tie him up and rob him at gunpoint, according to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. 

Augustus Moore, 29, of the Bronx and Madisyn Pettaway, 22, of Jersey City, New Jersey, have been indicted on a multicount indictment for burglary, robbery and weapons charges. Moore was arraigned today before Westchester County Court Judge Susan Cacace. The arrest of Pettaway is pending.

New Rochelle School District Puts Student Re-Registration on Hold Following Complaints by New York Civil Liberties Union

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne announced today that the City School District of New Rochelle has put a hold on its re-registration process in response to guidance sent by the New York State Education Department on July 19, 2018 and a subsequent letter to the District from state Commissioner of Education MaryEllen Elia. 

In her letter, Elia states that district-wide re-registration is inconsistent with the intent of State Education Law which only allows a school district to make determinations of non-residency for individual students

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- It has been another wild and wooly week at the New Rochelle Board of Education.

On Friday, many in the community breathed a collective sigh of relief when it was annouced that the “Reggie issue” had been resolved. New Rochelle High School Principal Reggie Richardson had resigned to take a job in New York City.  Within 24 hours, that relief turned to confusion and consternation with the news that the NYC Department of Education had rescinded its offer.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle police arrested two individuals for the July 13th attempted daytime armed robbery of the Pharmacy located at 761 Main Street.

On July 22, 2018, Detectives of the New Rochelle Police Department’s General Investigations Unit arrested Mahopac residents, Brian Dias, 31, and Tina Spearmon, 22.  Both were charged with Robbery 1st Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, and are being held pending arraignment.

After completing 17 weeks of training at the academy in Westchester, the City welcomed FF. Louis Riso, FF. Robert Pegues and two legacy families; second generation firefighter Ricardo Ramos JR., and third generation firefighter Ted Cordaro.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On June 14th, the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce hosted its 97th Annual Installation Ceremony where the new members of the chamber were sworn into the chamber by the Honorable Susan Kettner.

The ceremony was held at the serene New Dawn Foundation here on New Rochelle’s leg of the Long Island Sound at 590 Davenport Avenue.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Today, world-renowned 3D pop artist Charles Fazzino and his daughter Heather Fazzino joined New Rochelle City Officials and the City’s Municipal Arts Commission to unveil two original sculptures on a plaza in Downtown New Rochelle. The 100-lb, seven-foot-tall 3D pop-art pieces will merge New Rochelle’s past and future in the letters NRNY, celebrating all that is old and new in a City undergoing a rapid transformation as a result of its $4 billion redevelopment initiative.

The third annual Paddle Across the Sound fundraiser will bring together athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, and activists for a feat of endurance that will raise awareness and funds for a healthier Long Island Sound.
