City of New Rochelle Selected for $10m Grant

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Last Thursday, Howard Zemsky, President and CEO of Empire State Development and Commissioner of the New York State Department of Economic Development, joined New Rochelle City Officials at the local Boys and Girls Club to award a $10M Downtown Redevelopment Initiative grant to aid with the revitalization of the City’s Lincoln Avenue corridor zone and surrounding neighborhoods. The goal of the grant is to forge stronger social, economic, and physical linkages between this vital area and the downtown as a whole.

Pennsylvania Man Arraigned for Burglarizing Multiple Businesses in Westchester

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that 

Kareem Johnakin of Bethlehem, PA, was arraigned in Westchester County Court following a multicount indictment for burglarizing several Yonkers and New Rochelle businesses in the spring and summer 2017. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear again in court Oct. 9, 2018.

 

He is charged with the following:

•5 counts of Burglary in the Third Degree, class D felonies

•3 counts of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, class D felonies

Delayed Opening Scheduled for Monday

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- There will be a delayed opening of all schools on Monday, October 1, to test procedures that may be use during inclement weather and other situations. The high school and middle schools will open two hours later and elementary schools will open three hours later. 

The District has made some adjustments to its plans in recent days, so please read the instructions below carefully.

NRHS Students Take Part in Voter Registration Day

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- When the Mayor, Board of Education President and Schools Superintendent visited New Rochelle High School to talk about the importance of voting, they found that even the students who won't be able to cast ballots for a couple of years were eager to be involved.

On Tuesday, National Register to Vote Day, leaders of the League of Women Voters of New Rochelle set up tables to talk with students and help them register.

Sophomore Jannah Massop talked about the responsibility teenagers have as they grow older.

District Hosts TB Information Sessions

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City School District of New Rochelle hosted tuberculosis information sessions this morning and this evening at Columbus Elementary School. The Westchester County Department of Health notified the District this week that a student at Columbus has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis. The child is being treated, is not at school and is expected to make a full recovery.
