Celebrating 'Life and Light' at Amy's Greenhouse

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- They come each year to honor Amy Doherty, who was lost in the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, and to celebrate the place of "light and life" that has grown from her memory.

They gather at the Henry Barnard Early Childhood Center, home to Amy's Greenhouse, which was built with donations in Doherty's name. It has become a center of learning and personal growth for students.

Outreach Committee Seeking Members

Four NRHS Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Four New Rochelle High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, which honors top academic achievement.

Eliza Crocker, Josh Glickman, and two brothers - Adam Jones and Eddie Jones - were among approximately 16,000 students across the country named in the 64th annual competition. The semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of the high school seniors across the country.

F.U.S.E. to Hand Out 12,000 Free Books to Students

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City School District of New Rochelle teachers' union will hand out up to 12,000 books - that's $125,000 worth of volumes - in the Trinity Elementary School tomorrow.

The books are free to District students. They'll be handed out in the school at 180 Pelham Road on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until the books run out.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Youth Bureau, in partnership with the Dumont Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing Care and Alpha Medical Equipment, hosted their first annual backpack & school supply two-day event giveaway for middle and high school students at City Hall.

Youth Bureau staff and reps from both organizations helped distribute 250 backpacks - filled with essential school supplies - to students.

Moody’s Confirms New Rochelle Bond Rating as Aa2

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Moody’s Investors Services confirmed the City of New Rochelle’s strong bond rating at Aa2, insuring that the City can continue to take advantage of historically low financing rates. With New Rochelle’s 10-year capital improvement plan underway, the City will benefit from lower interest costs at substantial savings to taxpayers. New Rochelle was upgraded to Aa2 in January 2017.
