Mountco and Carrington Arms sale

September 21, 2013 - 18:19

Most residents are aware that the Moutco Construction Company rehabilitated and assumed ownership of the two Maple Avenue Senior buildings. However. they may not be aware that the Carringon Arms project off Lincoln Avenue which Mountco also wants to rehabilitate and assume ownership, includes a 32 year PILOT :(payment in lieu of taxes) which includes school children and public school costs. Details of how much money from the PILOT the public schools will receive were not explained at either the IDA (Industrial Development Agency) or City Council meetings.

LDC agreement for Iona questioned, Any comments?

August 03, 2013 - 20:10

Recently I wrote to the City Manager about the LDC (Local Development Corporation) and their entertainment of allowing $5 million in bonding for Iona for Pryer Terrace houses. One of my concerns was that this bonding to be used for faculty residences on Pryer Terrace was not creating new jobs in the community. This is a mandate for using this bonding. The reply below from the Commissioner of Development addressed this issue. Do you agree or disagree with the answer Mr. Aragon gave, and why or why not?
