NY State/ Public Land /Public Money/ Requires the Public Be Considered

July 25, 2013 - 14:39

The Citizens of New Rochelle with backs to the wall had the opportunity to speak about the Echo Bay FEIS with Forest City. They for the most part had nothing nice to say about it.

They spoke but clearly they were not to be heard.

New Rochelle no longer seems to have a representative form of Government we have a form of Government where by the " Fix" has been in for quite some time.

Why Would Electric Utilities Not Be Willing To Make a Simple Change To Stop Massive Outages?

November 10, 2012 - 04:32

The use of easily installed Breakaway Power line Connectors located at the start and end on every elevated power pole would allow the wiring to disconnect whenever power lines may be struck by the force of a falling tree or limb. A Storm like Hurricane Sandy which produced unprecedented power line damage causing many homeowners and business to have their power Interrupted for long periods of time. In some cases power was inoperable for more than 11 days. There are many crews crossing our County trying to affect repairs in a timely manner.
The same hurricane with breakaway connectors on our power lines could cause much less damage and very little interruption of service. The then simple repairs could be done in every case in a few short minutes vs what we have seen during our recent storm. The Technology is currently employed by many Power Service Providers or Utilities in Hurricane areas of Florida.

Pictured here are just a few of the 1,848 working fixtures removed from by Mayor Bramson in order to spend over $1 million of taxpayer money to burnish his resume by adding LED lighting to the Transit Center and New Roc City Garage.

The lights the Mayor has discarded had a useable life of more than 20 years. They were installed a few years ago when the Transit Center was built and before that when New Roc City was built. They cost a couple million dollars and were supposed to last 20-30 years. The Mayor has now deemed them worthless and is sending them to a landfill.

Why?

All so Mayor Bramson can hold a press conference to say how "green" New Rochelle is under his watch while ignoring that over 1,800 functioning light fixtures with two decades of useful life left are on the way to a landfill.

Not very green to me.

So, why are they on their way to the landfill after such a short time?

Pictured Above is some of the 1848 working fixtures that have 20 more years of usable life. They will end up in a landfill all for the ability to say we are green. Not very green to me.

On October 4th the Mayor and Chuck Strome will guide local press through the Transit Center as they would like you to believe they are the Greenest since the Green Giant was yelling his “HO-HO-HO’s.” They would like us all to pay little attention to fact and reality. They want us to put on our Green Sunglasses and Drink the Green Coolaid and just concentrate on the Greenest Mayor to ever set foot on our planet. The Mayors Communication director sent out a Press release touting a 60% reduction of energy from 1.9 Million Killowatt current use to a soon 1.1 Million Killowatt new proposed energy use.
This is all about retrofitting perfectly good Lighting to the tune of 1.5 Million borrowed dollars so the Mayor can be Greenest in the land.

Has New Rochelle Done Its Homework on a $1.5 MM LED Lighting System Planned for New Roc and Transit Center Garages?

LED Garage Lighting

The New Rochelle City Council voted unanimously July 10th 2012 to approve borrowing $1.5 million to buy an LED lighting system for the City-owned garages at New Roc City and the New Rochelle Transit Center. The project is now moving forward despite a lack of independent review and a failure to solicit competitive bids.

As a long-time New Rochelle resident, familiar with the New Rochelle DPW's checkered past regarding purchasing decisions, and more than three decades in the field of Architectural Lighting, I suggest this deal needs to be examined under, if you will forgive me, more light. Without fully understanding the science involved, the City intends to pay northward of 1.5 million dollars, using borrowed money, for a new and emerging technology. While LED Lighting is coming to the forefront of the Architectural world as a means of saving energy and saving maintenance dollars that alone does not make this a good deal. Further examination is required.
