New Rochelle Corners the Market: The Crime & Courts Section of the Sound Shore Express

paper

We were rather surprised to see that in the Thursday, June 14 2012 edition of the Sound Shore Express of the Journal News, seven of the eight articles in the crime blotter were about New Rochelle. The eighth article in the blotter was about a crime committed in Scarsdale. By looking at this particular week's blotter (barring the Scarsdale piece), we got the impression that the Standard Star was back. The fact is that the Sound Shore Express claims to cover Harrison, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Pelham, Port Chester, Rye, Rye Brook in addition to New Rochelle.

Seven out of eight briefs were written by the same person; Will David. The eighth one was written by Lee Higgins. We wonder if the reason for this unusual representation of New Rochelle in the Crime and Courts section was because it was a rather slow crime week elsewhere, David did not have time to get around to other towns or simply had his work cut out for him here in our home town. Whatever the case may be, it is not good for New Rochelle. The titles of the New Rochelle briefs read as follows:

May 25, 2011 - 11:24

On June 24th, 2011 The Journal News issued the following correction:

Robert Cox, who ran for a seat on the New Rochelle Board of Education, did not propose tasking an independent committee with presenting the district's annual budget to board members, as was stated in a May 13 article that ran on Page 15A. Instead, the committee would review the budget and present its analysis to the board.
