Dueling Artists in Downtown New Rochelle

March 21, 2011 - 22:14

The public is invited to watch Alexis Brock and Scott Seaboldt work on their masterpieces weekly on Wednesdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM starting March 16th.

The paint will fly downtown during March and April as Alexandra Rutsch Brock and Scott Seaboldt square off for a formidable duel. These very popular New Rochelle art teachers will stand fully armed with brushes, ten paces apart, and partake in a passionate creative battle.

Of course, it’s all in the spirit of good downtown fun.

These two talented New Rochelle artists will be the stars of the next BID’s Windows on Art—306 occurring at 306 Huguenot Street. Alexi and Scott are arming up with canvas and art supplies to tackle their individual “dueling” arts project, a mere ten paces apart. The cadmium yellow and vermillion red oil paints will fly as these two greats go head to head with lots of zealous laughter while they each create imaginative arts installations in full public view.

The New Rochelle BID joins the New Rochelle Public Library and Iona College in co-sponsoring a second season of the New Rochelle Science Cafés.

New Rochelle Business Review: Merry-Go-Round Toy Store

One of the nice things about having Ballet Atlantic in downtown New Rochelle, in addition to its great new facility and easy access, is the fact that we can conveniently visit restaurants and stores during our children’s classes and also run errands with our kids after class. One of my very favorite post ballet excursions with my children is a walk to Merry-Go-Round Toy Store which has been a fixture at 188 North Avenue for 60 years. It has been popular among families for six decades because it remains fully stocked year round, not just during the holidays, offers competitive prices, and for me, most importantly, is child friendly and offers knowledgeable service. For us busy parents, it is also open seven days a week, and oh, provides free gift wrapping. What more could a parent want?

Along with new downtown apartments have come many accomplished new residents. The BID is happy to celebrate the work of Argentine-American Maria Foladori Weiss, a gifted painter and photographer born in Buenos Aries, who with her husband, planner and public arts manager Glenn Weiss, now lives and works on Main Street in downtown New Rochelle. With the work of Maria Foladori Weiss, the BID is inaugurating a new Artist Spaces Program, BID Windows on Art, at 249 North Avenue. Created in partnership with the New Rochelle Municipal Arts Commission, BID Windows on Art-249 has already caught the eye of Talk of the Sound.
