Today's release of a long-anticipated report on an independent investigation into Pennsylvania State University's handling of allegations of sexual abuse of children by long-time football coach Jerry Sandusky is a stark reminder of the failure of the New Rochelle Board of Education to conduct a long-promised independent investigation into the Jose Martinez child-sex-abuse case at Isaac E. Young Middle School.
Former FBI Director Louis Freeh was hired with a mandate "to investigate this matter fully, fairly, and completely, without fear or favor."Read more
The conviction of former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky on 45 counts of felony child sex abuse and the charges that Penn State officials failed to report suspected abuse is a reminder of the failure of the New Rochelle Board of Education with their own "Jerry Sandusky" case.
Shortly after the arrest of Jose Martinez, current Board President Chrisanne Petrone promised a thorough independent, internal investigation to better understand who knew what and when along with a public report on the results of that investigation. That investigation has never taken place and no results of any Board of Education investigation has ever been made public.Read more

In the 12 minute video above, Robert Cox addresses the New Rochelle Board of Education at their Meeting at Isaac E. Young Middle School on Nov. 29, 2011. Before Cox speaks, Board President Chrisanne Petrone reads into the record a letter to Westchester County District Attorney Janet DeFiore regarding the Jose Martinez child rape case. Martinez was arrested and later admitted to a course or oral and anal rape of a 14-year old boy in his office at Isaac E. Young Middle School. After Cox speaks Petrone makes additional remarks as do two speakers from the community, Karen Hessel and Peggy Godfrey.
There are numerous false and misleading statements by Mrs. Petrone. I will address a few of them in my remarks at the next board meeting on Tuesday, December 6th at City Hall.Read more
Last night the Board of Trustees of Penn State University announced the termination of Dr. Graham Spanier as University President and Joe Paterno as the Head Football Coach in the wake of a sex abuse scandal that stretches back at least 17 years. In short, school officials and employees knew about the sexual abuse of young boys by a former football coach and responded by taking steps designed to protect the image of the school and their legendary football coach and did nothing at all to protect the children being abused.
While many heads have already rolled -- with more to come -- the Board itself has a lot of explaining to do because ultimately they are responsible for oversight of the administration including the football program.Read more
Jose Martinez was sentenced by Criminal Court Judge Susan Cacace six months time served SHOCK and ten years sex offender probation on October 11, 2011. A permanent order of protection is in effect until October 11, 2019 for the victim.
The sex offender status is the subject of a separate court hearing under the Sex Offender Registry Act (SORA) in which a judge will assign a level 1,2,or 3 depending on various risk factors. A list will be read through with numbers assigned and the final number will determine the level of sex offender status.Read more

It does appear that a letter was sent home by the school explaining Mr. Jordano's hiring. However, the "bookbag" monster does appear to have taken this letter from our child because it did not make it home to us (I did mention this was a possiblity in the original blog--kids lose letters). This is the reason why we check the school's website (which generally does have a lot of information on it) to make sure we are as up to date as possible. My point on communication is that, considering all of the recent events and considering this hiring is related to this unfortunate incident, let's use all possible avenues to communicate this hiring, including the school's website, the robo-call, and maybe even this website to announce major events. I know we are not the only ones who just learned of this.Read more
