The information you are requesting leaves no room for redirection or obfuscation should that information be released to the public. Sad but true , I wouldn't hold your breath while waiting for those answers .
Regarding the statement about the 2 million dollar surplus . Just what are we to imply about that ? Are the residents of Avalon secretly paying the costs of their children's education out of pocket ? If we convert all of the housing in NR to senior housing wouldn't we eliminate all "costs associated with the children's education" ? Why , we could actually get rid of the whole school system and cut our taxes by 70 % (assuming seniors won't have any more school age kids). Every family in New Rochelle is providing a revenue surplus by not having another child . Such a deal !
Isn't it ridiculous ? Besides , the 2 mill dollar surplus fantasy is more than offset by the huge Tax abatement given to these sites , meaning we are actually getting nothing in revenue from the properties ? Approaching a BILLION dollars in development (Avalon 1&2 , Trump , New Roc) and the city is struggling . Revenues basically the same as pre development and this was true before the economic downturn .Read more
The City of New Rochelle is plagued with illegal immigrants. One of the main reasons why these illegal immigrants come to New Rochelle is for the work that is available to them in many private sectors. The main area is landscaping & contracting business that employs them. These businesses pay these illegal immigrants cash so that they can cheat the government out of payroll taxes and unemployment taxes. These illegal immigrants also cheat the government. Their salaries are not taxed because they are not recorded by there so called employer. BUT, theses illegal immigrants sure know how to take advantage of our health and welfare system. They are main contributors as to why our nation’s health and welfare system is in the red. You see, when you have more people pulling out then putting in, what do people expect? To bad our government officials can’t see the logic in this. But this is another topic.Read more

With July 4th falling on a Saturday the City of New Rochelle shuttered city services on Friday July 3 and that meant an alteration to the garbage collection schedule for the week.
North end garbage and recyclables were to be put out on Wednesday and no garbage collection in the north end on Thursday.
Of course Thursday morning everyone put there trash out for pick up. Hence I pose the question, with the ability to call all households that have signed up for the connect New Rochelle program would it not be useful, for the 5 times a year it happens, to send a robo call out to the residents of the city alerting them to the change in schedule?
For one, there is no extra charge for using this service since it is a flat fee service.
Two, if I did not print my garbage collection schedule off of the city web site I would still be waiting for it. This could serve as a reminder of collection times and also that there is a schedule on line.
Third, we are all creatures of habit and we drag the trash out on the specific day because that is what we do.
I also propose that the city web site offer referendums but until that happens here is as a good a place as any to see if this idea would garner support.Read more
Holding true to the regularly scheduled traffic accidents at the intersection of Pratt St and Adams St, two cars collided today as someone rolled through the stop sign. For years this community has been trying to work with the city to alleviate this issue. Even to the point of trying to raise money so WE would pay for speed humps to slow down traffic . Following all the steps we were asked to follow lead us nowhere . Trying to contact Jim Stowe on no less than 5 occassions to again open a dialogue after an SUV totalled 3 cars and rolled onto it's roof in a one block stretch had no response from our councilman. None of the e-mails were returned as undeliverable and none were given the courtesy of a response. How bad does it have to get ? Do you need to see a death before you respond Mr Stowe ? Will that be important enough for your time ? It may not be a big deal to you so why don't you explain it to the kids who have to dive for cover when the drivers speed down Pratt as a shortcut to Main St.Read more
What in the world is going on in this city ? Corporation council fired for "insubordination" ? It seems a bit disturbing when the person responsible for your legal behavior disagrees so strongly with you that you have to fire her. Who fired her and what was it they wanted that even a lawyer wouldn't do ? Knowing Bernis as I do , I can't imagine a scenario where she refused to go the extra mile to perform her duty , ethically and within the law , but I wonder if she was pressured to file or execute something to suit someone's agenda , and refused . Afterall , she's been there over 10 years , you would think any personality issues between parties would have surfaced long before today . Good luck Bernis , and if you feel like telling your side of the story , I'm sure Mr Cox would gladly let you speak here .
So, smack the kids around , steal some vans , double dip at the trough , send child porn around , but please , don't disagree because THAT would be wrong. Right ?Read more
Mr Bramson -Historic building has no value , but I'll take pictures. Thanks mayor.
Having heard the mayor's radio show, I was impressed that he found a way to "preserve" the post office AND tear it down at the same time. Following up on a call from one of his last shows, the mayor showed due dilligence by noting the role the State Historic Preservation Office will play in the decision making process for the registered historic building. He went on to explain how one could record the building with video and pictures and that would be the same as saving the building thereby holding on to the culture and historical depth of the city. In agreement with a caller, he pointed to the capital improvement to the building around 1973(?) which removed any sense of what the building was, thereby minimizing any historical importance the building may have possessed. If capital improvements preclude a building from preservation, does neglect secure the preservation. Good news for the Armory. I'm glad the mayor said it.
Pictures. Why didn't I think of that! If we just take pictures of everything we can then sterilize the city of anything in the way of new construction. Then we could just sit behind a computer screen and absorb the full depth of our history without ever leaving our Capellitown apartment.Read more
If the council really is considering to vote on weaseling out of their obligation to maintain the Armory, then they really are fiddling around with the sole purpose of why they are elected. To serve the public, not the interests of a developer or their own personal vision of what they want to see. A caller on WVOX made the claim that the mayor has no great project to call his own, and bullying and pushing through HIS vision would give him the "feather in his cap" needed to spur him on to loftier political goals . Isn't there ANY sense of history left within this city. We go around and polish the plaques, restore a few monuments and call that preservation? Meanwhile, the grand icons of our culture as a city get razed to suit the current political idea of the month club. At OUR expense, mind you. Museums, theatres, Armories, neighborhoods, none of that has any significance anymore when compared to the money given away to outsiders. It's shameful. Perhaps there aren't any true New Rochellians left that care about their history, and the importance of true preservation. By voting for the home rule request, it's only a matter of time before they come after YOUR property. Think about that. Say NO to home rule, but don't say it to me tell your council person. They're here to serve, Right?Read more
