(White Plains, NY) -- Westchester County residents are among the state’s healthiest, according to the results released today by the third annual county health ranking survey developed by The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, and funded by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
This survey compares how healthy people are from county to county by factoring in such things as how long they live, whether they practice healthy behaviors or they smoke, are obese or drink too much and whether they have access to health care and a healthy physical environment. Westchester ranked 7th out of 62 counties for health outcomes, or how healthy a county is, up from 10th last year, and 3rd for health factors, or what influences the health of the county, on par with 2011.Read more

As the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, I have maintained a great deal of contact with leaders of this region, and I believe this summit provides a unique opportunity for the United States to forge a closer relationship with our neighbors in Latin America and the Caribbean. As a result of the increased risk of fire caused by a combination of high winds, low relative humidity and very little rain, County Parks Commissioner Kathleen O’Connor today announced a ban on open fires at all county parks.
While this ban is in effect, charcoal and propane fires will only be permitted for cooking in permanently fixed grills in the parks. No open fires are permitted. She also asked that patrons be vigilant in alerting park staff to any potential fire hazards they may see while visiting.
Conditions will be monitored on a daily basis.Read more
"Mitts off on Ann Romney. President Obama and Senator Gillibrand must immediately speak out on the insulting remarks made by an Obama campaign surrogate against Mrs. Romney. Mrs. Romney has worked for years raising a strong family, and anyone with children or grandchildren can tell you how much work that takes. Families used to be out of bounds in American politics and they should be again. An apology from the President's campaign is in order." -- Congressman Bob Turner (R-NY-9).Read more
James "Little Jimmy" Bonanno filed a harassment complaint against your intrepid reporter last week which was rejected by the Westchester County District Attorney because the actions described in the complaint were not illegal.
On April 2nd, New Rochelle police responded at 7 a.m. to 51 Cliff Street based on a complaint made against Robert Cox by Jimmy Bonanno. They might have added that Bonanno lied in the statement he gave to police but the case is closed so there is no need to make an issue out it.Read more
