Join Us for Leg. Jim Maisano's Toys for Tots Event on Dec. 10, 12-3pm

Please mark your calendar and join us for my annual Toys for Tots event on Saturday, December 10 from Noon to 3pm at On the Waterfront, 2 Pelham Road, New Rochelle, NY.

This is always a fun event that will surely get you in the holiday spirit. We are very lucky to have so many awesome friends that drop off toys and gift cards for kids in need each year. We are proud to work on this event with the Marine Corps League. The toys will be given to needy kids in the Westchester area. And this year we are adding to the fun with "Karaoke Christmas Carols," so stay for some refreshments and belt out your favorite Christmas song! Jean and I will be doing a duet.

Please bring unwrapped toys for kids of all ages. We note there is always a need for gifts for teenagers and gift cards and donations are very helpful. You can also drop off gifts before December 10 at The Cut Above, 2122 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont, NY or at my county legislative office in White Plains.

Please call 914-813-1402 if you have questions. See you on December 10!

County Legislator

New York Metro Area Swamped with 2-3 feet Of Snow. Mass Transit is stopped cold.

At about Noon this past Sunday, December 26th, the 6th-worst deluge of snow fell on the New York City Metropolitan area. In the area surrounding New Rochelle, NY 22 inches fell while Staten Island and parts of New Jersey received 29”. In time, autos and buses stopped rolling as the drifts reached 4-5 feet. Even rail transportation saw severe delays and even cancellations as the day wore on. New Rochelle and other municipal governments declared snow emergencies for the blizzard conditions at hand.

On Monday the 27th, Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road cancelled their commuter service. Metro-North had hourly Sunday service initially but eventually gave up the ghost as switch and signal woes befelled the New Haven line and was followed by the Harlem and Hudson before long. The Long Island Rail Road cancelled their schedule for the first of two days.

New Rochelle Humane Society - Furry Friends for the Holidays

Did you know that the local New Rochelle Humane Society (which services 17 neighboring towns) is offering a 50% discount on all adoption fees for those wonderful senior (slightly older but really lovable) homeless pets or those who have been in the shelter for 4 months or more?

It’s also not too late to post your beloved pet’s name in the Memory Tree which will be on display at the New Rochelle Humane Society from December 1 through January 4! With only a $5 donation, the Humane Society will write the name of your loved one (or a friend’s loved one) on a white or red ribbon and place it on the tree. Or, you can make a donation in a friend’s name and the Humane Society will send a card to the lucky recipient.

GRINCH STRIKES NEW ROCHELLE: Christmas Goes Dark in New Rochelle as Lights Stolen from City Christmas Tree

NewRoChamber_HolidayLighting2010 - 05.jpgThe City of New Rochelle's official Christmas Tree went dark over the weekend as thieves made off with the light bulbs that had adorned the tee. In a daring and despicable act of holiday humbug right out of Dr. Seuss's The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, the tree was stripped bare.

The tree has been shining each night since the annual holiday lighting ceremony on December 3rd. The event sponsored by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Improvement District and the City of New Rochelle Parks Department celebrated the Holiday season for all faiths. Rabbi Wohl, Father Francis and Reverend Wearver spoke of the significance of the lighting-up the darkness in this time of seasonal observances.

Maisano Delivers for Area Children with Toys for Tots Event at Dudley's

County Legislator Jim Maisano held a highly successful Toys for Tots event earlier today at Dudley's Parkview Restaurant. Guests donated hundreds of toys while overflowed the large receiving box set aside to collect gifts to support the annual U.S. Marines Reserve Toy Drive.

“This is a lot of presents for a wonderful program of the Marine Corps Reserve," said Maisano, a retired Marine. "I am so proud to see this kind of support from so many Westchester residents".

Over the past 60 years the Toys for Tots program has delivered hundreds of millions of toys to needy children.
