Do People Really Need to Shop on Thanksgiving Night?

I know this may not be the most important issue in the world, but I don't think it's right that Walmart and other stores are opening for Black Friday sales at 8pm on Thanksgiving night. Can't Thanksgiving just be a day where family and friends hang out, eat a great meal, watch some football and spend quality time together?

It is also very unfair to force employees at these stores to leave their families on Thanksgiving.

We live in such a fast-paced society. Many people are working long hours and cannot spend as much time as they would like with families, especially those with kids. I'm sure that American families need more time sitting around the dinner table and less time at shopping malls.

Holiday customers careful this season, claims survey

The current tradition of camping out in front of shops on Thanksgiving night to be able to be the very first to get "Black Friday" discounts could be dropping its attraction for many Americans. A recent study shows that the turnout this year might be less than it has been in 3 years. Source of article: Black Friday holiday shopping may be losing its appeal

People are more cautious

A yearly online holiday buying survey was done by management consulting firm Accenture. The survey polled 500 consumers around the nation about their holiday shopping plans. Most buyers this season are not just looking for a steal. They want the smallest price on what they want.Janet Hoffman works in the Retail division at Accenture. As the managing director, she said:

A Thanksgiving Day Parade and A Reason to be Thankful.

At the City of New Rochelle's 48th annual Thanksgiving Parade there was something for everyone. It proceeded down North Avenue from near Eastchester Road, turned left on Main Street. and ended at the Maple Avenue parking lot. There were bands, floats, military, school groups and a wide range of participants representing many different organizations and merchants. The Chamber of Commerce and the City of New Rochelle sponsored the event amid speculation that there would be no financing of parades next year by the City. State Senator Jeff Klein was also in the parade as a sponsor. The police officers on duty, including Fudge, stood patiently waiting for it to begin.
