Tonight at Hudson Park there was a free outdoor concert, another in the series of Wednesdays concerts sponsored by New Rochelle Parks & Recreation and Webster Bank. With a moment of silence, those gathered acknowledged the passing of Gentlemen Councilman Stowe.
New Rochelle High School students "Voices 6", just back from a trip to China, performed pieces from Rent, Jackson 5, among others.Read more
Tonight the New Rochelle Opera, sponsored by Metro Med, performed selections of Turandot among other pieces at the bandshell in Hudson Park. It was a nice sized crowd of families, seniors and couples. Several people running for office were shaking hands through the crowds and handing out customized fans and leaflets. A snack bar did a busy enough business selling sodas and snacks, plus more. The music was lovely, particularly the first baritone.

A wet and muggy day turned into a warm and breezy night at Westchester Magazine's annual Best of Westchester party. Sponsored by Sound Shore Medical Center and held at New Rochelle's Glen Island Harbour Club (Reader's Pick "Best Place to Get Married"), thousands turned out for the event celebrating the best places to eat, shop, play, and do just about everything else in the county. Winners were able to set up booths to showcase their services and of course, our great city was well represented.

Westchester Magazine has published their annual "Best of Westchester" edition for 2010. New Rochelle put in a strong showing in the "Food & Drink" and "Nightlife" categories but was otherwise shut out by the magazine's editors.
Don Coqui and Little Mexican Café were Editor's Picks in the Restaurant category (Don Coqui was also a "Reader's Choice"). Don Coqui was noted for its dancing and brining "A little bit of South Beach flavor" to Westchester. The magazine suggests giving the taco al pastor, a taco with chili-spiked pork roasted under a pineapple, a try at the Little Mexican Café which has previously been honored for Best Authentic Mexican Food (2004) and Best Margarita (2007).
Spectators Sports Bar was selected in the Nightlife category as "Best Out-of-Frat-House Experience" where "the co-eds are just as cute and the beer just as cheap" as you remember from your college days.Read more
Starting this weekend the City of New Rochelle will have lifeguards staffed at both Hudson Park beaches seven days a week and on through until Labor Day weekend. From Memorial Day weekend until the Fourth of July weekend the City only staffs lifeguards at one beach on weekday, a longstanding policy based on usage patterns, City Hall officials say.
Confusion over lifeguard staffing became an issue this week after a New Rochelle resident was prohibited from swimming laps at the "old beach". When the issue was raised to Mayor Bramson, the resident tells Talk of the Sound, she says the Mayor replied to her concern by observing that he had been at the beach the previous weekend and he had not experienced any problems. She considered the Mayor's reply to be unresponsive to her concern but Talk of the Sound has confirmed that the Mayor did refer the matter to the Director of Parks and Recreation Department which then investigated the resident's concerns.Read more
