I was in the New Rochelle development office at City Hall yesterday and found this really cool scale model on the conference table. As a kid I always liked this sort of thing and thought I would share it with readers.Read more
The Journal News' Phil Reisman ponders the decision of Nyack to ban booze after 10:00 p.m. New Rochelle's own James O'Toole opines:
Dunne’s Pub in White Plains is a classic corner bar. James O’Toole, the bartender, told me that business has spiked since Sandy.
“You know what’s happening?” he bellowed over the din. “People are just walking down the hill — they’re coming to the place just to get a buzz on so they can go to sleep because there’s no TV, no nothing.
“They’re going stir crazy. So what do you do? You gotta have a drink and get something to eat.”
O’Toole said a temporary alcohol ban would not be tolerated on this side of the river. “If they did that here, there would be a revolution,” he said.

On July 3rd, 2012 a New Rochelle resident came home from work to his home on Farragut Circle to discover that his car, a red 1991 Toyota, was no longer parked where he had left it but about 30 feet further down the road. The owner of the vehicle was completely mystified.
A security camera installed at the front of the home near the front door provided the answer.
The video shows that the vehicle was rear-ended by a U.S. Post Office delivery van. The postal carrier driving the van struck the parked car and the force of the impact pushed the car forward out of the frame.
According to Post Office sources, the postal carrier drove forward, got out of his vehicle and inspected the Toyota for damage. Post Office policy requires that a postal carrier involved in a collision call back to the office and report the incident. Seeing no significant damage, the postal carrier decided to continue on his route with the intention to report the incident when he got back to the office. He failed to do that was disciplined as a result.Read more
New Rochelle police got quite a surprise -- and more than a few laughs -- after a serious situation turned comical following an erroneous report of a man digging in Davenport Park. Two witnesses reported a suspicious person at the park and somehow the idea was conveyed that the man was burying a body.
"Two people reported seeing a suspicion person several days ago, maybe as far back as last weekend," said New Rochelle Police Detective Captain Joseph Schaller.
Officers were dispatched to the scene after the call was received. New Rochelle police officers responded in force after the officers observed that soil had been disturbed in area where, according to a tipster, a man was observed the night before. The department's Forensic Unit, the K-9 Unit and the Critical Incident Unit all responded to the scene. In all, over a dozen police officers responded.Read more
The skies over New Rochelle will be a little bit brighter (by about16%) tonight as the moon will be at perigee when the moon's elliptical orbit brings it closest to earth. (Some of you may remember last years Super-Moon)
Time for the full moon phase is at 11:35 eastern time, however watching the moon rise just after the sun has set will be sure to offer some majestic views and vistas. So, enjoy your Cinco de Mayo, cheer on the Kentucky Derby, then go out and enjoy nature's display.
The moon will rise in the east and if you're lucky enough to get a picture of it, send it along to Talk of the Sound - official sponsor of nature!Read more
