Since mid-May, Anthony Bongo has been telling people he "graduated" from Teachers College at Columbia University. The Isaac E. Young web site was edited to insert the title "Dr." before mentions of his name, even for letters and memos written and published before he "graduated".
A week after Bongo "graduated", we corrected the record: Isaac E. Young Principal Anthony Bongo Hooded at Columbia University Ceremony; Claims "Doctor" Title PrematurelyRead more
An elderly woman stepped on the gas when she meant to step on the brake, according to witnesses at a nearby A&P supermarket, sending a green Ford Taurus crashing through the storefront window of George's Hair Salon in the Quaker Ridge Shopping Center in the Wykagyl section of New Rochelle. No one was seriously injured although patrons and workers in the hair salon were visibly shaken.
An elderly man was in the passenger seat and a woman, thought to be care-giver for the couple, was in the back seat.
"She should have been driving", said one witness about the caregiver in the back seat.
New Rochelle police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene.
The store front was completely caved in, the window shattered with glass strewn about the sidewalk and inside the store.
The area was cordoned off with yellow police tape as on-lookers gathered.Read more

ESPN Sports Network has taken over the new gymnasium at Salesian High School and turned into an "ESPY Prom" for star athletes including tennis star Serena Williams, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, Green Bay Packers pass rusher Clay Matthews and sexy Olympic downhill racer Lindsey Vonn.
The shoot is to promote the 2011 ESPY Awards. Nominees will be officially announced next month. The 19th annual ESPY Awards ceremony will air live on ESPN from Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 9 p.m. ET. An ESPY Award, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award. It is an accolade presented by ESPN to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony. The first ESPYs were awarded in 1993. The ESPYs are hosted by a contemporary celebrity; the style, though, is more relaxed, light, and self-referential than that of many other awards shows like the Grammys and Oscares, with comedic sketches usually included.
Also on hand for the shoot today at Salesian is John Wall of the NBA's Washington Wizards, B.J. Raji of the Green Bay Packers, Kevin Love of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves. Scheduled but not available today was the New York Yankees First Baseman Mark Texiera. Saturday Night Live Weekend Anchor Seth Meyers who will host the annual summer event was also on hand.Read more
Residents of the normally quiet East End section of New Rochelle were amused as they watched a young male deer foraging in their neighbor's garden. A first for any of the locals, it was a pleasant surprise especially for the kids. One neighbor called the police who asked "is he breaking any laws?" and that put it into perspective as we all learn to share the environment.Read more

A crisp, crystal clear night provided the backdrop as Mother Nature brought the moon just a little closer to New Rochelle (and the rest of the world) last night as if to confirm "winter is over". Amen to that! With Sunday being the first day of spring, it was a fitting fanfare to usher in the new season.
If you took photos last night and would like to share them please send them.
Saturday nights "super moon" resulted as the moon reached its perigee and came closer to the earth than it has in the last 20 years or so. Closest it's been, in fact, since January 20, 1992. Anybody remember where you were on that date? In case you missed this years celestial "happening" all is not lost. The moon will be even closer on November 14, 2016 for all you stargazers. Until then, get out and enjoy spring and all it has to offer!Read more
UPDATED: Seal PHOTOS and VIDEO Submitted.
There were reports yesterday of a sick seal at the New Rochelle Marina. Several readers reported seeing news helicopters hovering over that area; the seal report is why they were there. The seal was not visible to the news crews and there are some reports that the seal has left the area. None of this is official but readers who are near the water are encouraged to keep an eye out. A beer on Talk of the Sound at Dudley's St. Patrick's Day party for the first to capture the seal on camera!Read more
