NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Parks and Recreation hosted the 16th Annual Kids Snapper Fishing Derby on September 9, 2018. The day was also honored as “Robert A. Cerreta Day” with a mayoral proclamation for late organizer who passed away this summer.

"Carrying forth this event is a fitting tribute to our cherished Marina advocate, Bob Cerreta; what a wonderful legacy," says Parks and Recreation Commissioner Bill Zimmermann.

In 2002, Robert A. Cerreta organized the first Hudson Park Snapper Derby. Sixteen years later it’s still popular, attracting over 50 youth annually ages 6-16 and featuring free bait, refreshments and prizes.

At this year’s event, Robert Ceretta was remembered for his passion for fishing, instilled by his mother who first took him to fish at Hudson Park as a young boy. He worked hard to pass on this same pleasure to younger generations. He was a longtime member of the New Rochelle Advisory Committee on the Waterfront and also served as the Chief Ranger of the New Rochelle Forester’s Club of America
